I bought these new speakers (Mackie SRM450 Active) and they're emitting this buzzing sound when hooked up to my mixer. When I turn off the mixer, the buzzing stops, so I know it's not the speakers. Could anyone give me some advice on how to get it to stop?

How do you run your setup? thru an amp? crossover? External EQ?

did you forget to put the ground plugs on the mixer? those two tiny forks? That usually causes the buzzing. Happens to me all the time.

If you are using a ....ehh...socket-divider (?) you know you plug one in the wall and then you get like 6 power sockets....Helping to remove the buzz might be to plug the mixer in the "first" socket; nearest the cable.

I've got the speakers directly plugged into the mixer, using the three prong plugs (sorry, I don't know what the real name is, it's not the RCA plugs). Then the turntables are pluged into the mixer of course, and the ground wires are fastened securely to the mixer as well. I tried using different plugs with the same result. I never had the problem using a reciever and normal speakers.

k..my friend had something similar happening. You might have cooked your phono channels.(he did that to his by powering up in the wrong sequence) To test it, take a discman or any other digital source, plug it into your line in, switch that channel to line as opposed to Phono. See if the hissing is still there, if its not, its the channels themselves. Cost my buddy $230 CDN to get his fixed. If the hissing is still there, then I dont know what the problem is.

Yeah, I'm assuming the problem is my mixer. I've got two turntables, two cdj-1000's and my computer all hooked up to it.. All channels have the buzz. And, it's even there when all the volumes are turned to zero.

yup. my guess is that its your mixer. probly the out. Have you tried running straight from TT to speaker(can you with your setup?) try to eliminate item by item what COULD be giving you the 'noise' and that will help to isolate the problem, that way if you take it in to get repaired, you can tell the repair guy what is wrong w/ it.

I know someone who has the exact same mixer as I do. He has agreed to let me replace mine and see if the buzzing goes away.

They're "Powered" speakers which means they have amp's built inside of them. You can plug them right into any audio source and they will play it.

I had a similar problem to you with my Numark 1720x Mixer - here is what was wrong with it...

On my mixer I have 3 outputs: Master, Zone and Record. As I don't always use the record output I had some (Don't know if this is the correct term) Phono stoppers put into it. They are like phono plugs but not connected to anything. Anyhoo my mixer was also buzzing so I tried removing them and the buzzing went away. Not sure why they were causing it exactly - it probs was causing some sort of feedback on the mixer circuit.
