Dancing Dude Official pics of the new ECLER NUO4!

I finally got some official pics of the new NUO4 from ECLER! It looks pretty interesting! Especially for those who play live sets with a lot of MIDI software/devices.

HERE SHE IS!!!

Not the greatest pic, but you get the idea.

Heres a bit of a description:

As you can see from the pictures, its a 4-channel mixer, like the NUO2/3/5....but the middle channel is the MIDI channel. There are 4 knobs, which are similar to the effects knobs on the NUO5..meaning that they are push/turn knobs. You can set up to 3 functions for each knob, and switch between them on the fly. There are also an assortment of buttons to perform other functions. This one is set up for TRAKTOR, but you can easily modify and reprogram all the buttons via USB to suit whatever program you like. Also, you can print a new label with the included software, and insert it under the lexan cover, again to suit any MIDI program functions. It is highly functional!

Pricing will be around $700-800 USD.

Wheres Mr Thrice, we need more info on this, I'd like to know more about the midi section of this unit, also I see on channels 2 and 3, the input for them can either be H-L, Phono or Midi, how does this all work?, also is th fader curves the same as on the Nuo5?, and any word on a Rotary version or a Rotary kit, that would be killer.

Also I'd like to say, I'd take this over the DJM1000, or take the DJM1000, sell it, buy this mixer and keep the change.

Was hoping to see effects, but the MIDI should be interesting. May have to look into this.

That would be nice, but Ecler wanted it this way, I'm waiting to hear about a Nuo6 that has everything that the Nuo5 has, but with the Midi unit from the Nuo4, and also comes with a beer holder.

Yo guys....this is Mr. Thrice

Thats pretty much all the info I have right now. I'm not really sure how the MIDI works on channels 2-3

J:/Digital--if you live in Calgary, try AXE Music in a few months, they should have one in their store

And no, this mixer is NOT to compete with the DJM-1000...I dunno where anyone would get that idea

Besides, ECLER already has something in their arsenal to compete with the DJM-1000...its called the SCLAT 200vs. 100% analog, no D/A conversion, no gimmicks, no gadgets, just pure, unadulterated sound.

And yeah, an updated version is on the way

there cant be a MIDI input on channels 2 and 3. if there are its just a MIDI thru port which allows you to relay a MIDI signal through another device in the MIDI chain. this allows you to daisy chain midi instrumets although the latency increases the more MIDI devices in the chain.

the reason why there cant be a MIDI in port on a mixer is that whatever instructions are sent from your host - your mixer is not a playback device. it doesnt generate sound. if you put a note in a piano roll in fl studio and send that midi instruction to your mixer - i wont do squat. it doesnt generate sound. it can however relay a midi signal through it with a midi thru port. and i suppose you could set that device to generate midi clock and have other midi devices sync to it. i.e. like a wordclock device or a midi timepiece. although im not sure about that so dont quote me on it.

MIDI is just an instruction set. its not audio or anything. for example. my access virus b is a hardware synthesizer. it has a MIDI in port, a MIDI out port and a MIDI thru port. in my host (fl studio) i hold a note on the piano roll with velocity 120 for 3 seconds with the filter cutoff at 60, oscillator set to saw etc etc etc. my soundcard then sends that data (MIDI data) to my virus b via its midi out port. my virus receives it from its midi in port. this basically tells my virus b to trigger the note i played at that velocity for that long, with these settings on the filter, envelope and oscillator. my virus then plays the notes with those settings and sends the resulting audio out of the analog output on the back of my synth. i can then record this audio by routing it to the analog inputs on my soundcard.

im not exactly sure what the nuo 4 is going to do with that midi control. i think you force midi clock using the tap button. the mixer sends MIDI clock to all devices in the midi chain via a midi out port. for example you use it like the numark dxm tap button to set the tempo at which the effects sync to. only in this case it syncs a midi track in ableton live to that bpm. i assume you could create grooves or extra drum tracks and stuff. you basically have the midi track in ableton which is where all the notes are in relation to each other. when they trigger. for how long they trigger. etc etc. all of that could be synced to the tap tempo on the mixer. you could then fade it in/out. pitch everything up down in ableton using the mixer as a midi controller (thats fairly easy because you can already do this with existing midi controllers by assigning the master pitch or master volume in your sequencer to a rotary on your midi controller). thats just speculation on my part. but that seems to be the only logical way i can think of for having those midi controls.

Off the top of my head the the only logical reason you would have MIDI on a mixer is to control software DJ mixing applications via MIDI OUT(I know Mixvibes has a MIDI mixer for their mixvibes pro series). Perhaps they're bundling it with a new DJ mixing app they have in the pipeline? And I also notice a "pitch up/pitch down" button, and this only sways my theory that it's for controlling a software DJ app(the pitch up/down/bend function they have)

On second inspection only the center strip of knobs is labeled as "MIDI CONTROL". I wonder if the other knobs (including the crossfader, kill switches etc) can pass out MIDI

It appears as if the knobs on strips 2 & 3 can also be used to OUT MIDI (seeing as they have a MIDI select switch). Very nice idea, but it's kinda pointless and hard to control a software DJ app without a MIDI jog wheel controller. Mind you, I wouldn't be suprised if they release a MIDI jog wheel aswell.
