Somehow you have to carry on. When some purist approaches you saying "YOUR DJING SUCKS" Should you be mad ? Whose fault is this ? The club is a popular club. BIG DJ play there. It was just a BAD night and all the technical errors fall on you at the same night.

It did to me and I feel like quiting. PLEASE HEAL ME FROM THIS PAIN FREINDS

Its these things which make you a better dj. Don't worry about the wanker, he didn't know the situation and what he was talking about it. Don't worry too much about it.

Did we play at the same place. lol. I just went thru this the other day. The sound sucked, the mixer was junk, and the people in the crowd only wanted to hear hip hop and house. Well, I just brought a bunch of trance with me, so I probally was not their favorite dj of that night. But, so what. I had a good time, and did the best I could on the crappy equipment. The only thing I can really say to you to make you feel better is, "Welcome to the wonderfull world of playing out". You are going to run into situations like this, you just gotta make the best out of it that you can. Just try to pocket your pride and have a good time. You are not the only one that this has ever happened to. Good Luck.

Mike

Its true it happens all the time!!!

Ive only played out a few times and the worst one was my first, one deck was totally skipping, the pop up lights were screwed and i had a lamp over one of the decks, but still couldnt see the grooves cos that was too bright, and had to use a crackling numark mixer/CD combination that only one of the CDs was working so that screwed any CD-CD mixing for me.

But other occasions have been much better, even played at the same place an knew what to expect, which helped

It is difficult but as everyone else has said it just makes u a better DJ

Yeah, its happened to me a few times.

Mind you, I've never had the luxury of playing at an actual club....mostly house parties and things like that. But I always seem to get stuck with a 10 year old worn out Numark mixer, which only half works...and crappy, worn out needles that skip like mad, on a super unstable table, with NO monitor speakers. UGH!

And yeah, I usually play like crap when that happens. I dunno, its like I'm ONLY comfortable on my own setup. When I play somewhere else, it feels all weird and I cant get into the groove.

One thing that I have failed to understand is why you can't just bring your own equipment to a club?

You can. but that would be weird if you were playign an opening slot and you tried to do that. Maybe the guy after you likes the equipment they have installed. You can't get booked for the first time or as an opener and stroll in with your own equipment. They'll laugh at you. At a smaller place it wouldn't be a problem. I've seen guys do it.

well you gotta think of it from their perspective.

most clubs don't have a sound guy, so they see all the dj equipment as being highly confusing and troubling. if someone they don't know at all asks if they can bring in their own stuff.... its already confusing enough.

however, if they do have a sound guy then kick his ass.
