Alright....got two questions:


a) I'm looking for equipment, and I've found good deals on Denon and Pioneer equipment...the thing is..I'm going with the Numark PPD01, and I'm getting a headset and some speakers. The staff at the store told me this was all fine, but then someone told me that I MUST HAVE an amp in order for my equipment to work. Is this true?

b) I've been looking for vinyl emulators, and I've played around on the Axis 9's...but I'm looking for better.

I'm looking to play hard trance, psy-trance, hard techno, and some rap...

I've been looking at the Numark CDX and the Denon s5000, I like both, but I'm not sure which one to get to play my stuff. I've never really DJ'ed before, so I'm looking for something which isn't too advanced.

And...do the Denon s5000's read CDRW's...(burned cd's)..and do they play mp3's?

What should I get?

you dont need an amp if your speakers are active. You will need an amp or receiver if they are passive.

cd players are personal preference. i had the axis 8s, similar to the 9s, and i hated them. a lot of cool features but they never held the pitch.

the s5000 is a great player but at that price save up a few more dollars and get a pioneer cdj 1000. the s5000 does play mp3s.

for around $400/each you can get either the denon s1000 or the pioneer cdj 200. both are great players. i like the denon more but some like the pioneer. you cant go wrong with either one.

And...the CDJ1000's, do they spin like the DN-S5000's...or are they like the Axis 9's...stationary wheel...??

I'm thinking of the MKII Pro...but I'm not sure if there's any difference?

How do I find out if my stereo speakers are passive or active?...and do I have to buy two amps?...If I buy one, and if that's ok,,,will that be the ONLY way that sound gets projected?...and what are some model numbers/brands for active speakers?...

with regards to your question about the pioneer CDJ, they're both the same aren't they. i checked the pioneer site.. http://www.pioneer-eur.com/eur/prod...onomy_id=44-106 and i could only find the pioneer cdj1000 mk2..

as for the speakers, usually by looking at the summary of the product you'd know if they're active or passive? they would usually indicate if it comes with an amp. and you just need 1 amp to hook your speakers up to. there are multiple connections at the back of the amp for you to hook your speakers up to.

that's not the only way you can have your sound projected. you might want to consider hooking them up to an existing hi-fi or stereo system. good way to save some $$$. and for the brands to recommend, i'm not to sure, maybe someone else can help you. but i'm using the yamaha active speakers.

99.99999% of the time, speaker in a home stereo system, which it sounds like you have, will be passive. BUT you probably have a receiver that the speakers are connected to. the receiver has a built in amp so no need to worry about powering the speakers.

you need to see if your receiver/home stereo has an existing auxiliary jack or even a free jack for a cd player or dvd player. you can connect your mixer via a red/white audio rca cable to your receiver/home stereo and you will have sound.

the mkII is an updated version of the original cdj1000. just a few differences. nothing really major, but i cant tell you exactly what the differences are.

if you like the spinning platter, you have to get either a dn-s3000, or a dn-s5000 by denon. they both have the spinning platter feature.

i am selling a barely used dn-s3000 if you choose those.

what are you looking to do with the equipment, is stricly for your home? house parties...?

second what is your budget, because if you simply don't care for it then get some good speakers with a built in amp and you're all ready to go. as for players i think cosmokid said it perfectly, chose what you like. between the pioneers 1000mkII and denon 5000 (that is).

i know someone who is looking to sell his denon 5000 players for a good price, so if you're interested pm me

It's mainly for home, house parties, taking it to places for parties, friends parties...it'll stay in my room 80% of the time, but again, I'm looking for something not really expensive...the CDX's here are $1600 for one, so I'm not picking that up, I'm looking at the CDJ-1000MK2's or the DN-s5000...I've heard that only old school and rap DJ's use the DN-s5000's...so I'm not sure..


..And..how is the sound quality on the Yamaha Active Speakers??

The CDJ-1000mk2 CD players are the most expensive of the 3, so if the CDX is $1600 there... the CDJ will probably be something like $2000. Now, the CDJ-1000 DOES NOT play mp3's, but it does play .cda files (i.e. files that are recorded onto a CD as a music file and not as data).

Another thing, the DN-S5000 has only been around for a couple years, so it can only be a preference of the old schoolers.

My suggestion...

Denon DN-S3000 or Pioneer CDJ-800

All of the Pioneer models have a spinning platter.

As for what CDJs are for what style... it absolutely doesnt matter - you can play what ever your heart desires, its not like the CDJs are living and are biast to certain types of music.

Its a surprise that the CDX is more expensive than the CDJ cause here the CDJ is about $1000 and the CDX is about $750.

If you dont need all the bells and whistles go for the DN-S3000, it will save you some money and its the same as the 5000 minus some extra features.
