Personally, I think you have to use CDs to keep up with newer tracks. I can't wait to get some CD decks next year. There're a lot of tracks that I simply can't get on vinyl. So places like beatport are very nice.
I'm sure someone's mentioned it before, but with the digital explosion of music, you've got good and bad. It's good because you can get tracks much earlier than their vinyl release. Also, there are killer tracks out there that don't make it to vinyl for one reason or another, so CDs give DJs the opportunity to still play these tracks. On the other hand, since it's become so much easier to get tracks out there, you also get a lot of crap. I'd still say it's worth it, though.
(Of course then there're tracks like Hiratzka & Kazell - Venice Dawn that are just simply hard to get. It's been around for about 18 months and it's only just now been released in any generally available form. And even then, it's only available at Juno right now, that I'm aware of.)
