Love Fave Party Highlights 2005

A few of my fave parties this year:

5am feat. Christopher Lawrence @ Room 680 ... trance the way it supposed to be played. Amazing set!
UNIFY feat. Ronski Speed @ Altitude ... it is still possible for a trance party to have an excellent vibe from start to finish
Chinese Laundry feat. Deetron @ Public Office .. 3 decks wizardry and DJM600 abuse central.
Transatlantic 7 feat. Collabs @ The Metro ... The legendary 5 hour set! Whoever said techno is dead, you obviously wasn't there!
John Digweed @ QBH ... A living proof that once you got to that stage when you're a superstar DJ, you don't need to look at the crowd (not even once) to get the party going.
Obsession #1 & #2 @ Room 680 ... we all loved it, apparently Dr. P didn't. who cares what he thinks anyway.

Special mentions:

Thrillseekers @ The Cage .... everybody misbehaved in their own special way that night!
Unicycle 2 ... always a memorable one!
Private Function feat. Chris Meehan @ Altitude ... "what is prog?"

what's yours?

Christopher Lawrence - top notch set, one of the most original I've seen this year
Ronski Speed - Great set, great vibe, APPALLING SOUND all night; you could stand right in the middle of the dance floor and clearly hear conversations all around you, it was that quiet.
Obsession #1 - fabulous big-room feel during Mr Strangis' set. Lots of fun.

My highlights:

Infected Mushroom @ Metro - This was by far the best party on Labour Day Eve. IM completely blew my mind.
Chris Fortier @ Private Function, Platform One - The whole spectrum of deep progressive music, finishing with Sarah McLachlan, James Holden, the Chems and the Killers. Top stuff.
Habersham & Numinous @ Sunny, Brown Alley - Normally their style of prog/breaks is not my thing, but it was twisted and delicious, served up with a great Sunny vibe.
BT @ Godskitchen - A great party set. He played to the masses, and the masses loved it. Love Comes Again ftw!!!
Astrix & Protoculture @ Earthcore - Blissful, driving, uplifting and a little bit different. Uplifting trance without the same old sounds.

01 - James Zabiela @ Field Day, Sydney. Best set and best day party in Sydney evar.

03 - Two Tribes Sydney. THE PRODIGY & M.I.K.E tore off the roof at the Sydney Superdome. Jan Johnston tore off some shower curtains or something to make her outfit.

05 - Trancetribe: The Event. Top night catching up with regulars.

06 - Fri ~ Deep Dish & Danny Howells @ Academy, Canberra. Danny Howells, hot following the release of GU027, hit Canberra with some smooth prog. Deep Dish reaffirmed their place amongst the dj ranks by starting off their 4-hr set with The Star Wars Imperial Death March
Sun ~ Deep Dish & Danny Howells @ The Hordern, Sydney. Big BIG event, but Canberra did it for me.

11 - Digweed @ Home. Finally caught the master in action. Wasn't that impressed by the 5-hr set (wasn't no GKGG EM) but that rounds off the big names that I've wanted to see.

12 - Renaissance Weekend.

Renaissance Summer Ball @ Home ft Sasha, Zabiella and Fanciulli. Wicked sets, even crazier versus sets - JZ vs NF in the terrace ZOMG THIS IS SICK I DIE, and then JZ vs Sasha vs NF closing. Did Sasha REALLY drop a remix of Madonna's "Hung Up" at 7am?! FO SHEEZY.

if that night wasn't paramedics material already... the following afternoon...

The Garden Renaissance @ Slip Inn ft. Desyn Masiello + Nic Fanciulli. Electro house damage in a wicked venue, and everybody's fave robot loving Brit was partying along front row with the crowd!

TA massive was present at both. Funny how it takes a little electro house to get the chinstrokers out and on their feet these days

hmmmm. im not sure whats so funny but im glad youre enjoying yourself.

i didnt say i thought steve hill (or bexta for that matter) was awesome. i said they were the best i got to see this year (mangler & begic ftw tho!) and he was infinitely better than jewelz. if i wanted to hear pointless music with 1 bar looped for 2hrs i could do that at home.

bexta wasnt too bad at all. a bunch of decent tunes, nothing flash. tight mixing. looked cute. was polite and genuine.

jewelz is ugly and plays *horrendous* music. whats to like?

International wise..

* Big Day Out - too many moments to mention, but Carl Cox & Chemical Brothers
* Christopher Lawrence (as per previous mentions )
* Deep Dish @ Metro 5hr set
* Danny Howells @ Room
* Transatlantic7 (and the tek-neck epidemic)

Funny mentions go to:
* Thrillseekers @ Cage (welcome to the 3rd dimension)
* Jan Johnston @ Room (Pump up the Jam podium stylez)
