There was this one time in August 2003...
Nah. I doubt anyone remembers that.
NOTE: I live in New York.
But seriously, I was using my computer and suddenly I hear everything shut off. Then quickly turn on again and shut off once more. I thought it was a power surge and was willing to wait it out a bit.
I got bored quick so I got up and decided to go for a walk and then grab something to eat. Unfortunately, my car was in an auto-repair center in Brooklyn that day so I couldn't DRIVE to the deli. On my way out, I grabbed my minitor and decided to turn it on while walking to hear if any local departments were getting fires or whatnot. As soon as I release the volume control knob (which happens to be the power knob, too) I hear all these fire departments paging calling as many members as possible to attend standby. I had no idea what was going on but I did hear the tones for the fire department I was a part of. I started running and remembered that I had a friend that lived close and that he could drive me to the firehouse (At this point, I was really irked that my car was not with me). As I rang the bell I heard someone rushing towards the door and there he was with his hair all shampoo'd. Anyways, he was wondering what the hell was going on since he was listening to the radio and it suddenly stopped working. He was able to drive me over to the firehouse (with some difficulty considering the traffic lights were out) quickly and then began my 24 hours of non-stop suckage. We got more than 60 automatic alarms going off within that time span. Luckily, we had AC and lights due to backup generators so it wasn't too bad. Also, people were coming by and giving us food and drinks for free. The local ice cream place, Maggie Moo's, gave one of our other houses a few gallons of ice cream because they were sure it was going to melt in no time. I barely got any sleep that night (one hour was spent on the back of the ambulance lol) and I was close to melting due to the heat and being in our firefighting gear when we were on calls.
Ah well... Distant memories now.

Oh man, last weekend I was playing the after party for a show by the band Green Lemon here in Point, well it turned out that the power died like an hour into the Green Lemon show, and it didn't come back for around half hour to 45 minutes so they cancelled the show.
At this point, we all think that the power is just out at the venue and that we'll just head to the after party and get it going a bit early, when we get outside we realize the whole town is out...
So we go to the after party anyway (kegs and bottles don't need power, neither do bowls, lights, bills, flat shiny surfaces, etc. and so on ), and get a little bit fucked up and decide to wait it out. Lots of people show up, everyone's drinkin', one of the m8's busts out an acoustic, bunch of candles, kind of a cool vibe, but damn do I want to spin.
2 hours pass and it's now 1:30 in the morning, Myra and I are outside, we've got everything packed up and in the car ready to go, and we're just finishing up smoking a cig and saying goodbyes. I litereally take the keys out of my pocket and take the FIRST step to get in the car, and BAM! POWERS BACKS! I had everything set up in 5 minutes, and rocked the place until quarter to 4, and we had a pretty good crowd until about 3, it got sparse after that (I was playing to like 4 people at one point ), but it was awesome, and a ton of fun. Having the power out just got all the people who stuck it out so ready to party that when it finally came back on it was like a miracle... It ended up being a damn fun night...
