A B.C. sociologist says many video games are racist because of their portrayal of Asian and Latin males. Do you agree?
I've always felt that racism is a matter of perception. If you're looking for it you will find it.
Will Reid, Toronto
It is now a tendency of ethnic and religious Canadian groups to scream prejudice and racism when ordinary folks simply reflect the reality on the streets. The same applies to media such as video games. "Racism", like "terrorism" , is an oft misused term and does nothing but hide the inherent issues in their respective communities.
Narotham Puri, Mississauga
The claim that "Some video games are racist" is as ridiculous a claim as "Some books are racist". This is a tactic known as a "Straw man", where an accuser makes an overly general claim that can't really be refuted because it doesn't really say anything.
Matt Keefer, Peterborough
How can such a broad-sweeping comment be made when there are just so many games out there?
Bianca Williams, Toronto
I am so sick and tired of hearing about everything being racist. These games are maybe too violent but I seroiusly doubt they are racist.
Cliff Campbell, Acton
He found 4 titles that proved what he wanted to prove. In all it proves nothing to me. Pick and choose your sample data and you can prove the earth is flat and the moon is made of cheese.
Brent Sienna, Toronto
If video games weren't so brutally violent then we wouldn't have to worry about the ethnicity of the characters being portrayed in a negative light. Whatever happened to Super Mario?
Kim Dyson, Toronto |
What did happen to Super Mario ;(
"Computer games don't affect kids: I mean If Pac-Man affected us as kids we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music." ~~ nintendo 1989
