PEP pills are actually illegal and have always been illegal.
Benzylpiperazine (BZP) is a prescription-only substance meaning that since the Medicine's Act of 1968 it has been illegal to possess it without a prescription. There was a police raid of a PEP pill warehouse around Middlesbrough recently, they seized about £200,000 worth of them.
For some reason sites like EDIT and FunkPills.co.uk have been getting away with it over the last couple of years, but now when they run out of stock they won't be getting any back in.
Sorry guys, but when the government finds out something is fun, it has to be banned.
The amusing thing is that most frequent BZP users will probably go down the illicit road now, as real ecstasy pills are normally cheaper and probably just as easy to get hold of.
As for whether or not they work - they do! BZP is a very similar substance to MDMA in terms of its effect on serotonin in the brain. In some ways, it's actually more dangerous than MDMA because you can overdose on about 700mg. That's why when the packet says don't take more than 2, you really should take that seriously - stretching to 4 or 5 would put you at serious risk. Also some people get some nasty side effects from BZP, such as vomiting, and a hangover-esque headache the next day - I can't say I've experienced any of this during my BZP trials though. |
