To My Amazement, I Have Just Found Out That There's A Stanton Dealer In Cyprus. But What's Even Better Is That He Is Located Right Here In Nicosia. What's Ever Better Than That Though Is That There's Some Kind Of 'Sale' Going On And Some People Have Purchased Some Stuff At Low Prices. So Naturaly I'm Thinking Of Checking It Out As I Am On The Hunt For A Good Deal On TTs To Buy. What Bothers Me Though Is That So Far I've Only Seen Straight Tonearms On Stanton TTs. After Being Involved For A Period Of Time, I Have Been Left With The Impression That STR8 Tonearms Are Only Ment 4 Scratching DJs And Could Wear Out Vinyl Faster As Opposed To S Shaped Tonearms. Pls Share Your Views On The Matter With Me, Should I Buy TTs With STR8 Tonearms Or Should I Forget About It?

Get the new Numark ttx-1's. They have interchangable tone arms and come with both. Check out the site at www.ttx1.com They are boasting to be the best turtables out there, even better than Technics.

Veldrid, Thanx 4 Your Reply, But The Problem Is That I'm On A Tight Budget At The Moment, That's Why I Was Considering To Buy Stantons Now That They're On Sale And I Might Be Able To Get Good Decks For A Low Price. So I Wanna Know If It's Worth Getting Stanton TTs Which Have Straight Tonearms. I Just Wanna Know What Are The Differences With An S Shaped Tonearm, Especially If My Vinyl Will Wear Out Quicker Or Not.

str8-100's come with a S shape tonearm option if you want it. but str8-100 cost too much.. esp. if you are on tight budget... check out numark tt2's.. i like em alot ... u can get it for around $230 u.s if you search hard enough. but yea.. bout the straight arms.... i hear that they do wear out your vinyl.. .but that occurs after a long long time.... well, depends if you are a pro DJ or not i guess. but anyhow... i hear that the M.O.S(ministy of sound) are switch'n their decks from Technics to stanton str8-100's! i have never used stanton str8 series so i dont know how they feel.... and dont know much about it except that they are straight tonearms lol but a lot of people i have talked to that owns them(str8-80) seem to like em alot.

Straight tone-arms put more pressure on the record most of the time- therfore, yes, they wear it out faster.
Also, they're mainly for scratching because they're more stable but scratching wears the record faster and also doens't blend well with Trance in most cases!
Also, there's that channel delay thing with straght arms that bothers perfectionists like moi...
I say, go for S- shaped arm! (If you buy a TT with straight, just buy a new one, it's a good investment in terms of keeping your vins in good shape!)

Stanton DOES make a non-straightarm turntable, the ST-100.
It's a STR8-100 with a curved tonearm. pretty cool looking
