Geeks, please congregate (Thunderbird issue)
I get reallllly annoyed when I can't solve a problem, because if an answer is out there, I can usually find it. However, with each of these, I've resolved that I need someone who is experienced in troubleshooting these issues.
The first has been ongoing for quite some time, and the other is very new.
1 - Corrupt Thunderbird Profile
| quote: | I need to create a new profile, and move my old folders and messages into it, but I have never done so before. I have most of the procedure figured out via tutorials,
Here's the deal - when I start TB, the Status Bar reads "Building summary file for Inbox...". Before this issue, I never compacted my folders. I get a ton of e-mail forwards to this account, and I'm usually good about cleaning up the Inbox and its subfolders. I know now that I have to keep up on that, as well as compact the folders, which I've set to occur automatically.
Additionally, when I browse to my profile directory, the Inbox file is 1.3GB. That might be everything that's ever come through my Inbox, but nowhere near what is in there now (maybe 50-100MB). I'm not confident that there was 1.3 GB of data in my Inbox and its subfolders, but possibly that much data has traveled through it, but was never deleted since I never compacted my folders.
As specified on a Mozilla forum, I tried deleting the inbox.msf file, but that didn't resolve the issue.
I read that I should delete all of the MSF files, but I still haven't found the easiest way to move everything into the new profile.
I just think I'm moving a couple of the wrong files, or something, but if anyone if familiar with recreating your Thunderbird profile, please let me know. |
After I resolve this, I'm moving to Outlook 2003 and finally reformatting.
2 - MSN login error 800072efd (related to 'key ports' in troubleshooter)
| quote: | I've never had any connection problems whatsoever, but as of late, I have not been able to drag files into MSN Messenger windows to transfer to contacts. So, I decided to reinstall...
I opted for Windows Live Messenger. However, it would not connect, ran its self-test, and then determined that Key Ports were the issue. A few reboots, a few reinstalls, to no avail. I DLed v7.5 and installed that, but the issue still persists!
I'm using a Dell Inspiron 9300, ethernet (wireless is enabled though), XP Home, Zone Alarm. Nothing relevant seems to be blocked, but when I restart now, a connection is prompted for 192.168.0.0. I select "internet zone", instead of "trusted zone", but I think this might be the problem, as this alert has never occurred prior to this installation. |
My next step is to uninstall Zone Alarm and reboot. I've done a shitload of things, based on Googles for "MSN Key Ports" and the error code. While "Key Ports" is a steps in MSN Messenger's troubleshooting sequence, that search comes up null everywhere on Microsoft.com. (no, I'm not surprised)
Please, no elitist recommendations. Thanks for reading
