Smiley DJ SERATO WITH VIDEO SUPPORT!!!!! AMAZING!

Ok... For sometime now, Serato has said that they will support Video and Midi in the near future. They even went as far as to say that Midi support will come in version 1.8.

Anyhow, a while back a video surfaced showing Serato with video. This video was vague because it only showed the video and record manipulation but they didn't show the interface.

And now, a NEW VIDEO has surfaced from the NAMM Show two weeks ago, where it shows the interface, and built in video monitors into the Serato interface! WOW! This coming version of Serato is amazing, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I belive this will be the Pioneer DVJ Killer. Why? No extra equipment to luggage, no extra video monitors, and it's all simplified! AMAZING!

Anyhow, watch for your self.

Maybe it's just me but I just don't understand the appeal of mixing video, it detracts from what I love the most - the music.

Yeah - it's very clever technology - but I'd never get into this.

Music is more than enough - if i want to watch something I'll sit and watch a film.

That's a fair argument a lot of DJs have been making. But in my case, mixing Videos is a plus because a lot of venues have been offering me double the pay if I mix videos. It's not just mixing music videos but you can also get creative and make your own visuals. Maybe even build a show around your visuals. You never know.

DVJ Killer? I certainly doubt that. For one simple reason: Hardware decoding is infinitely faster than software.

I have a better reason for you... COST! SSL is only $530 vs $2500 EACH DVJ, needless to say that with the DVJ's you'll need video monitors ($700 for the Numark Thriple Screen) and a video mixer ($1000 For the Edirol) or a video switch ($400 for the Pioneer) to make it work. That alone will cost you over $8000, not including cables. Not to mention all the extra luggage you will carry with the DVJs. And if one of your DVJ's messes up, you're screwed. With Serato, you can simply load the videos onto another computer.

Let's face it, not everyone can fork out $8000 for a DVJ video system. Now tell me which one looks more attractive?

Now, Serato did say that the Video will work FIRST with the TTM57 Mixer. That mixer is $1500 and it has Serato built in. But, Serato does have plan to make the Video function work with more generic/other hardware.

Don't forget the Serato package also requires a computer- particularly one that can handle the video playback smoothly.

I do agree with alefort, though; niche-hardware (well implemented) will always be faster than the software implementation, but there will always be a point when it is 'good enough'.

That said, it's always good to have more options.
