hey all

I'm building up my new setup wouhou ! I've been a sound tech 4 years and got into DJing few times with my friend gears, but now I wanna equip myself.

I know I'm already buying 2x CDJ800. That's final

But I'm not sure about the mixer. I'm really interested into the Xone:32, mostly because of the filters. I found some videos showing the filters effects while using the Xone:92 and I totally love it. But I can't afford the Xone:92 unfortunatly

My question is, is the filter effect processor the same on the 92,62 and 32 mixers ? Because the Xone:32 seems to have the exact same buttons (LPF,HPF,BPF, LFO, etc) as the Xone:92...and you can mix 2 filters to get a phasing effect or stuff like that. But can I do the SAME thing with a Xone:32 than with a Xone:92 when talking of filters effects ?

If not, then I might end up with a DJM-400 with effects...but I like to Xone better because of the filters...

although my experience with pioneer mixers is limited to the djm 800, from what i understand the sound on the lower end models isn't as good as the 800. the effects also don't sound as good. I would venture to guess a low end A&H has better sound/functionality than a low end Pioneer. But once you get to the upper echelon (sp?) of mixers its a matter of preference between say a djm 800 and a A&H 62 or 92.

As for sound quality, the DJM-400 is supposed to sound quite good. Pioneer claims it has the same sound quality as the DJM-800. Their other low-end analog mixers weren't known to be any good sound wise, though.

I have the 92 (you probably watched my youtube filter video?). Yes it's great. The 32, while sounded good, being well built, and having the filters, has a strange layout to me. I don't like the gains on the back of the mixer, it only has 4 leds for level metering, has that odd slider for filter control. It's an older mixer (2000 timeframe). Still a solid piece.

The DJM-400 looks pretty kickass for a little mixer. It doesn't have digital in's/out's, nor a booth output, but for home use I think it'd be great. The effects look relatively interesting, but nothing really beats the warm sound of an analog filter.

I'd choose layout and overall functionality over filters/effect though.

XONE:32 is a good mixer. It's a little oddly designed (with the gains on the back), but otherwise it sounds good and has those filters!

If you want something for $700-800 with filters or FX, that, and the DJM-400 are your only choices (unles you go for a Numark or Behringer or something....which you dont wanna do).

I admit, the Xone:32 is oddly designed. When I first saw the layout, I searched for 2min the damn gain controls.

I'd wonder...if I go to a price range of 1000$, what would you recommend ? Xone:62 ? What's the difference between the Xone:32 and the Xone:62 besides more channels and a better layout ?

honestly, i'm not a fan of the 62

it's a good mixer, i just don't like the cueing

if the mixer isn't set up properly level-wise, it's a bit of a bitch to mix on if you like to hear the master out in your cans

if you're thinking xone, go for the 92, from what i can tell A&H have learned from their mistakes

if you want effects go for the 400, it's a well-built little machine that will last you for a while, especially if you're just jamming in your bedroom

Plus, if you eventually get an add on laptop program like Torq for example which supports vsts, you can download some pretty great filters for free (or you could get an efx). Yeah it's not A&H filters but some of them are pretty damn good.

Yes they sell the Xone VF-1 filter unit. But it costs about $500-600 (US), and you only get the one

Not to mislead you... but not all the xones have EXACTLY the same filters...

The 92 has 2 completely independant, assignable filters... each with their own LFO's. The others have different combinations thereof. Check the manuals on the xone website for more info.

I do have to agree though, that the 92 is really the only Xone mixer (other than maybe the new S2, V6, or S6) which I really like. The 62 and others all suffer from odd layouts and such.

Essentially this is what it comes down to.

Is your mixer going to be use at home only? If then, there isn't much of a different in sound quality in DJM or Xone. But at clubs, a world of difference.

I personally like the xone62. I don't use the master out for the cans so cueing is set up fine for me.
Hate xone32. Pretty sure I've said that a few times. lol.
