well.. allmost everything is 2 achieve with software, u just have 2 spend lots of time on it.. and u have 2 have lots of programs and ofcourse a bit knowledge of music and synth programming

i`ve acchieved 2 make some nize phat synths but the synth isn`t always the key 2 a phat sound, the melody is also, how its build, for instance an melody with only 1 not at a time playing doesn`t sound as phat as for instance an chord of it, so good usage of notes is needed too..

well.. i dunnow whot u mean.. by that project, are u gonna make tracks with it also??

yeah....and the bumside with extremely phat sounds is that they often don't fit well in a mix.

If you hear nothing and play the keyboard with that sound you go woaaaa! and if you put it in your mix it clutters up your entire mix....phatness isn't always the way to go.

Make sure for instance you don't make your sound so "phat" that it has lots of low, lots of mid and lots of high. Depending on the music of course....if you make minimal techno very phat sounds are good, as the only thing that can get in the way is pretty much the kick. But if you have a full blown trance track, it can't hurt putting a "phat" sound thru a high pass filter or an EQ so that it doesn't get in the way of the kick and bassline.

a mix is a delicate thing! the thicker a synth sounds on it own, the more it tends to rumble right thru your delicate mix.

anyways. Key to phatness is usually detuning as many oscillators as ya can miss (unison!)

I didn't mean to produce whole tracks together, I thought about creating sounds by sharing knowledge and samples, e.g. how to get a bassline like Cosmic Gate, or the uplifting
Sound of Rank 1 tunes, the great riffs of Ferry Corsten ...

@Pjotr G : I know that you have to make sure that your sounds fit well together and that too phat sounds overdominate probably in a mix.
Melody is important, but you can ruin a whole song if the sound of your bassline or your melody is boring.

Another little trick is to layer your synths

For instance with reason create a new mixer (to compliment the one you have) unhook it from the other mixer by flipping it around and add it as an instrument

Add a Subtractor and connect it to the new mixer as an instrument, tweak it so it’s not to hard and not to soft keep the frequency in mid range, not to high not to low. Then copy the sub and past it two or more times and connect them to the new mixer. Create new sequencer tracks that coincide with the new subs and match the pattern of the old sub. Change the new subs cent values. Try to make one lower and harder and another significantly higher and softer (or vice versa, experiment). Doing this creates a more fuller sound. Also you can change the LFO for the individual subs, which sounds tight. You shouldn’t mess with a lot of the values because the subs stop sounding the same.


Another thing you can do so the bass “doesn't get in the way of the kick and bassline” like Pjotr G was talking about is to drop the lower sounds.

For example at the build up b4 the bass starts have all the subs playing at once, and when the bass starts, you can stop playing the lower ones. If your lower ones have the harder sounds that you want to keep you can start a new sub with the same values as the old sub but at a higher cent. You might also what to try and change other values to get read of the low sounds or like Pjotr said you can add FX like eq. If you do it right, the bass should not screw up the sound

Thank you for supporting this post and those hints how to create phater sounds.
My contribution to this will be the Reverse Reverb.
I think you all know this awesome Reverse Reverb when some reverbing sound comes before the vocal samples. If you don't know what I am mean
try this:

Take a vocal sample which has no or few reverbe and reverse it in your
Wav Editor.
Then add a Reverb with a long decay.
Reverse it again.

You now have an Reverse Reverb, which is often used in trance and other genres.

BTW, there are also Plugins who can handle this, like the Enverb in
Logic Audio.

I can´t think of any tips right now but one thing u could to is the same thing as Trancevision talked about.
But instead of using Reverb use Delay.

ok all that is good, but how do you make a sound of the synth like dumondee? I use 3x osc and pro 52...hmmm even with all the editing, sampling and mastering...still cant make the phat sound. One day, ill figure it out.
