oops did i say vocoder? lol i meant the reverb... btw i cant stand reason as it's very non-ergonomic (bad workflow)

I'd suggest starting out by loading up the demo songs and just watching. Then mute some instruments, see what's doing what, turn knobs while it's playing. You can create some pretty rad moving synths by using the matrix with the maelstrom for instance. It's something to play around with at first. You might find it better to create individual instruments rather than to try and jump in and make a full song. There's a LOT to do, much more than just the vocoder.

How do you add your own vsts and audio files? I notice like with the dr rex thingy you have to load rx2 files or what not.

You can load your own samples through the NN-19 and NNXT samplers. The NN-XT is actually fairly impressive once you learn how to use it. Yes, to use Loops you need to create the proper file for Dr. Rex. I really do suggest rewiring Reason, as it can open up a ton of possibilities. In a way, Reason is an open ended VST/plugin.
