From reading previous posts on the subject, I've narrowed my decision down to two: Alesis M1 MkII and Event TR6, unless someone wants to chime in otherwise of course! Going to guitar center next week, hopefully they'll have some on display to listen to (crosses fingers).

I'd like to tack a question on though (it is on topic): Any thoughts on the new Alesis M1 620 vs the older M1 MkII?

Actually the Behringer Truth Actives are the best value buy you can get. I've had the pleasure of using Mackies (not the new ones that just came out) and a pair of KRK RP6's and the Truth blow the KRK's out of the water and stand up very nicely against the mackies and for like half the price you can't beat it.

The only thing about them is that they have a slight curve on the low end but otherwised the freqency response is a respectable level of flatness and the sound overall is strong at low volumes, clear and great for production.

You should also check out Samson Rubicon R5/6A's at £200/240 a pair respectively.

go Tapco

Get the Behringer Truths or if you have the money you can pick up a set of Tapco Mackie S8's for around £280 on ebay new.

Id go for the Tapco's, better bass response and build quality.

BUT I was looking at the truth's and they seem pretty good.

no idea but I have the Behringer 2031 actives (dont go passive with studio monitors, just not worth it imho) and they are entirely bomb for DJ'ing and production alike.
