I honestly never understood this shit - why do people always make a big deal out of this? This notion...that quitting cigarettes is like next to impossible.

Before someone goes on a rant about how addictive nicotine is, I'll save you the trouble – I know exactly what it does to your nervous system, and the effects it generates. But the thing that boggles my mind is...

Honestly, I'm sick of hearing this from every other person that 'wants to quit'; I think it's absolutely pathetic.

Now granted, I want to reiterate that I understand fully, the craving factor. However, I have great respect for self-control, discipline, willpower...call it what you want. When I hear people talk about how their parents, girl/boy friends, spouse, family etc... and how they're being affected by that individuals smoking habits, and their inability to stop – I mean wtf, if you can't force yourself to stop smoking for the people closest to you...wtf are you good for?

anyway, this wasn't directed at the author of this thread. Good luck to you...
I'm just sick of hearing about people who want to stop smoking...but can't show any fucking restraint, even when their family is involved – heck if not for anyone else, these idiots can't even stop for their own sake. It's like, YOU KNOW you're shortening your lifespan, but apparently that's not a compelling enough reason for you to make a decision to seriously stop killing yourself.

i'm not saying this is all in your head...what I am saying is, okay yeah so it takes like treatments and support to help someone stop...but can someone honestly say, that the majority of people who 'want to quit' have used every resource available to them? fuck no man, most of them just keep talking.

if you seriously want to quit, there is a world of support aroud you (if you know...you can't show any form of willpower for your family) so what's stoping you from reaching out?

God i'm still a little drunk, but I stand behind what I said.

I consciously quit smoking February 2005 and have not been corrupted again. If only I could quit all forms of illicit drugs for good. LOL

My lungs are so AWESOME now that I've taken up swimming and will try jogging in the very future...

January 14th 2005 and haven't touched one since...

Most difficult thing I did - lost my short-term memory for 6 months and my asthma isn't really any better but I smell great!

The benefits of giving up are definitely hyped IMO but who cares what the benefits are, smoking is shit.

I have never smoked a cig in my life but I don't discount the effort people need to make to stop -some more than others. Just like with anything else, some people simply have a more addictive personality.

And I can appreciate people saying they want to quit, but havent actually done so - for many it's a huge effort and time commitment and the side effects are not pleasant. It's not like losing weight or exercising, which can have some enjoyment...I've seen parents and grandparents and friends struggle with quitting smoking and it's not a fun ride.

Personally it just boggles my mind how much people spend on this stuff. I am so relieved I never started...I have enough other things to waste my money on! heh.

Congrats on your success with it, PB...

This is quite fascinating, would you mind elaborating? I'm quite intrigued by this phenomenon.
