honestly if i was in your situation, the last thing i would worry about is posting on a forum, and taking advice from people who you most likely don't know well, but those are just my 2cents.

But for the health of this thread, first thing i would do is put a restraining order on that guy and get him some help pronto, emotional instability never leads to any good.

you're right, and you're wrong. I agree that this shouldn't be a place to ask this type of stuff. I may be drunk, but, i sort of know what's going on. My sister had the same problem. Husband was a fucking psycho. Restraining orders didn't really work because even though he sent her threatening messages and even followed her, the police never did anything when we called because he "didn't touch her or threaten her in anyway". It fucking sucked. What I'm saying is, maybe the restraining order won't do much. If your dad is unstable, then something more has to get done. But getting that restraining order is the first step. This was in florida btw. not sure how stuff runs over here.

Well if it was me I'd sit down with him and have a nice conversation about his behavioral problems, and why it's very much in his interest that those behavioral problems are resolved immediately and satisfactorily.

If you're not comfortable doing this, I imagine you could find someone willing to walk him through the process for a reasonable fee.
