I wouldn't doubt it. But I still wonder. If his parents have so much fat on them as well, they're probably starting to experience health problems from it by the time the kid is that old (maybe ten or so), and would want to put a stop to it.

But maybe they just convince themselves that it's inevitable that their child will be as fat as they are.

My parents always tried to force me to eat past the point when I didn't feel like eating anymore.

I think parents think its much better to "eat everything off that plate" than to waste food I guess. It just teaches kids to eat past the point where their body signals its full.
