Exclamation

Let's do another unscientific poll here.

Do you prefer your Trance tunes with or without lyrics?

Personally, I like it better when it's instrumental. The occasional voice samples or voices used as musical instruments can be really great, but having someone singing over the music usually doesn't do it for me.

Whaddaya think?

It's just like back in the day with Eurodance tunes... Sometimes you'd have an awesome song and then some idiot comes in and starts rapping and ruins the whole thing..

.... and then there are other tracks like that where if there was no rapping the song would suck..

same goes for trance... Sarah McLachlan's silence wouldn't go anywhere without vocals, right?

Or Bt's Dreaming, and Bt's Godspeed. They are pretty similar, but I can't say which is better, although one has vocals and the other doesn't.

Cool

But many of these songs with full lyrics tend a lot more toward euro-dance stuff than real trance, no?

Now, we are coming on the subject of what exactly is a trance tune and what is dance of even pop...

argh! Too many hard to answer questions here!

Many bid DJs now think that trance has degenerated a lot into dance and pop in the last couple of years. Anyone agree with that?

Depends on the song, one reason why I liked trance was there would be less emphasis on vocals than the house I used to listen to.. Some of the vocals in the house genre got ridiculuously cheesy.. anyways, sometimes vocals work and sometimes it doesn't, but I don't think you can say vocals or no vocals is automatically good or bad...

latez...

I didn't know BT- Godspeed had lyrics in it...

and i agree it depends on the song and how well the lyrics mix in with the song

"No words, no talk, we'll go dreeeeeeeeaaming"

Ok guys, I have the best example here of what I'm talking about.

Listen to Agnelli & Nelson's "Everyday" on their "Hudson Street" CD (or pretty much any mix of the song), and then listen to the version they used for the music video.

As hot as the girl singing may be (and believe me, she is hot), the video version sucks craptacularly compared to the other versions. It is almost a sacrilege to cover such great music with singing like that!

I think it depends on the complexity of the song...I totally agree with Swamper in that Silence would suck without Sarah singing her vocals...songs like Dutch Force - Deadline and Traveller - Bright Sign [Trance Mix] don't need vocals to make it a better song...if the melody can carry itself without vocals than all the better but i have to admit sometimes a song is better when you can sing along with it or well maybe for some people it wouldn't be better...guess it depends on the company you keep...I can't help it if people are tone deaf ...btw trance isn't exactly defined as a form of music that generally doesn't have vocals...trance is supposed to "alter your state of consciousness" be it through pure melody or with vocals...whatever works with you...that's why we have so much trance because each song affects everyone differently...well that all i think i will say before i start my whole treatise on the joys of trance...PLUR
