Gunna be honest, was very impressed... He started off really hard with some of his WTF?! stuff, and just when a few of us had enough of that, he changed it up on us... My expectations were "ehh" (expecting to hear all the "hits", which wasn't my reason for wanting to check it out tonight), but he varied it up a little bit and played what I think were the better of the "hits", although I would have liked to have heard "faxing berlin", as old as it is, I still like that track a lot... Also woulda liked to hear his WTF?! tune "ceaba555" but I don't think he played it...
Overall, very good set, maybe not as OMFG INCREDIBLE!!@#!@ as a lot of people were making it seem, I'll give Zabiela that prize though, he was awesome... The skill level he brings should make him top 5 DJ in the world, he sets the standard, and after 2 hours of Ableton from Mau5, was good to have Zabs tear it up on the CDJs, like noone else can that I've ever seen... I haven't seen him in a couple years and he really really brought the heat... I think Mau5 and Zabiela were a mismatch, or maybe should have been the other way around (I'm sure Mau5 had to tone it down toward the end of his set; with a closing set, I'm sure he coulda been more free with his selection).... But yeah, Zabs was a beast and playing a lot of the stuff I initially fell in love with him for... Took it down to breaks and shit at one point, pure filth...
Was a good night at Pacha for once, very cool crowd and no problems at the door: maybe something to do with the Rhythmism.com Anniversary? I heard last week for Morillo, they honored no comps, no reduced guestlists (didn't even inform the promoters of this), and upped the price to 35$ for 21+ and 45$ for 18+... But yeah, none of that this week, got right in no problem, although I still hate that email-collecter guy outside, I don't know why the venue gets someone who offends everyone as they go in...
Anyway, good night, Martinez Brothers upstairs were pretty good too when I was Mau5'd out, nothing stellar, although later on, they were playing some good funk and disco, I was actually digging it, good shit!!... But yeah, 8/10 for Deadmau5, 9/10 for Zabiela, and 9/10 for Sleepy & Boo for a great opening set (what was that 303 acid house song toward the end?!?!?!?!)...
