Buying a Soundcard For Logic

Hey Guys,

I am looking at purchasing a soundcard for Logic pro 8. I have been told that the apongee duet is the way to go, and it's affordable. My main concern is that I would like to produce high quality sounding music! beats that sound good enough to be released at beatport... Is there any other soundcards you guys can recommend that are similiar to the duet and in the same price range? Thanks in advance!

the duet is your best choice... but, understand that the soundcard you choose wont really have anything to do with making "high quality house music"

But it will have a lot to do with the sound quality of what you are producing.

Seriously only about one year in logic express 7. I have a stock soundcard at the moment because I am not using any external sounds. My productions just don't have the sound quality I am looking for.

it's not the sound card - trust me. sure, the sound card will give you a slight boost in the highs, but your music most likely needs a lot of improvement from you in terms of sound synthesis & arrangement.

but to answer you question, I use logic myself and am perfectly happy with my mobile pre USB external card.

I think it will help a lot with the sound quality that my computer outputs while I am actually mixing down my tracks. I have really nice M-audio monitors also...I think a slight boost in the highs is exactly what I need!

i dont understand how the soundcard can affect the sound when no external instruments are used. it will only affect your ability to monitor the track ofcourse but then monitors are much more important.

a soundcard will not give you a "pro" sound

Ever played a cd or wav file on a pc with a crap sound card vs a pc with a good sound card. Chances are you didn't hear the difference.

A good sound card is much more to do with improving the ability of processing the sound particularly when you start using multiple sources but the actual difference in output is usually hardly noticeable. I wouldn't want to use an onboard sound card for producing but any pro sound card is going to produce good quality output.

I'd say they're a about equally important. Cheap onboard soundcards often have muddy bass and trebles up as well. Smily face curve style. Getting monitors while having such a soundcard won't help much. However, good quality soundcards can be obtained for 99E, which essentially is a bargain.
