I would like one too, but i think they are too expensive so i have never even bothered to look into them.

+1... my brother almost rented one of them but he realised that even making a giant bucket of coffee would be cheaper.

+1 !!!

I spend so much money buying gourmet coffee that I believe buying one for $600+ would be worth my while.

What I suggest you do (what I would be doing had my parents not promised me one as a moving-away gift) is keep an eye out in department stores. I work at Sears and we put a LOT of good quality machines on clearance just b/c new models are coming in and we need to get rid of the older stock (which functions just as well as the new stuff). Look out in Sears and the Bay ... wait for a weekend when they put clearance on sale (usually once a month) and go in and pick it up. Usually it drops down to about 30% off of the already reduced clearance price. IMO this is the most effective way of buying a good quality machine without spending major bucks.

ive been checking ebay and im with you on the price. i am expecting 600-900 for a machine but i want something that other people have used. i'm pretty picky about it. alot of them steam too hard and i cant stand that.

Yup. Best $25 I've spent was ona moka express. Steam from the bottom pushes water up through this cylinder which contains fine coffee grounds to produce coffee that is equivilant to espresso. If you want your latte, just heat some milk up in a pan and pour into the a cup with the coffee. It won't produce a foamy top, but spilling out a couple hundred just for that is just really gay. It's just as good, and much, much cheaper.
