Yes sir! Vinyl is the path I choose to walk, despite being a proud owner of SSL for 1,5 years and that each day the digital realm of DJing is growing more superior. I regret not buying vinyl earlier (although I could not have afforded vinyl earlier anyway). My ultimate goal is to collect my favorite tunes on vinyl. I know this will be hard and expensive but I want to do it. The deep sound of vinyl, the act of collecting vinyl, holding it with your hands is worth every cent spent on it. TA vinyl-whores! I need your advice on vinyl stores with the biggest catalog, preferably past releases dated 1998-2004, and with optional international delivery. I've looked through the TA thread listing vinyl stores and from what I've learned HTFR and Chemical Records are the #1 stores for old/rare vinyl. Any other big stores I should know of?
And another thing: what's it like to buy secondhand vinyl via eBay and gemm?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
music stack marketplace. that can be awfully expensive depending on where you live. i spent $63AU on 1 song earlier this year

it's a fucking bitch most of the time, especially if you want vinyl that isn't all crackly and fucked up as most people really do grade their vinyl generously. i've ordered a bunch of records that were graded as mint and they clearly have been played and quite a lot too as they had some horrible crackles i couldn't remove no matter what i tried.
so you never know what you get when ordering vinyl from someone on ebay/gemm etc.
also complaining about it doesn't always mean you'll get your money back. i think it's paypal's policy at least that you have to send the records back on your own expense to get a refund from the seller, which is stupid as fuck if you ask me, because you'll just end up losing money (what it costs to ship them back and it can be quite a lot depending on the country) and getting nothing in return...
anyone buy at Discogs Marketplace? i found ULTRARARE records there and I'm honestly going to shit in my pants if I get a hold on those records omG i'm so anxious. i hope it doesn't disappoint me

I've yet to get a CD that skips from all my Discogs antics...But that doesn't help with regards to vinyl, now, does it?

i've had problems with 6 of the 16 records i've ordered and received thru discogs (2 of which hasn't been sorted out and it's been months). got 12 more ordered atm and i'm afraid 2 of them will never arrive. too early to say anything about the 10 that are on the way. so it's not exactly the best place to shop IMO. and mind you, i've only ordered from people with good feedback.
you gotta be careful who you order from and always pay by paypal so you can file a complaint if you don't get your stuff.
damn you scare me but where in the world am I gonna get those extra-rare records if not from secondhand sources
oh..and I forgot to ask: does the complaint system on Paypal really work??? is their a slight possibility of getting your money back if you received a bad record or haven't received anything at all?

well i have the same problem as you. the reason i got a turntable in the first place was so i could buy the tunes i want that aren't available on cd or download. and i have to say that i'm kinda disappointed with how wrongly people state the condition of their vinyls. also i really wonder how people take care of their vinyls. still i don't regret buying a turntable just to get those tunes i want.
but i must say that i'm really sensitive to crackles etc. though. i don't want any of that shit in my music, i want it to sound as flawless as possible. i know most people aren't so strict about that.
and i don't have much experience about the paypal complaint system. i've made one complaint thru it and it was about an electric toothbrush i bought on ebay. the seller didn't reply my mails for some reason even though he has 100% feedback on ebay and is a power seller too. when i made the complaint thru paypal he immediately shipped the toothbrush and some extra stuff too. dunno what was up with the whole thing. i think he honestly just fucked up and thus sent it straight away and not because he was afraid that he'd have to pay me my money back.
but i'll have more experience with the complaint system soon though as i most likely have to file a complaint about the 2 records that the dude i ordered them from hasn't shipped. i'll report back on how it turns out if i remember.
