Question Do I need to be worried?

For some mp3s I use KaZaA. I just found this website where they say:
It can potentially use my computer for third-party tasks -- not simply spying or replacing ads, but literally using my processing power for its own nefarious purposes.
No what does this mean, should I just stick with Audiogalaxy? Though it uses Gator adware to replace the banners that appear on the websites I visit!
Also I found this site, worth to check out, I guess it's a hacker's who makes "clean" versions of p2p softwares?
http://www.cleanclients.tk/
It's kind of chinese to me, but for sure I'm not happy file sharing can make my PC look like an open book.
I'm worried! More info:

What do you say?

Im not much of a Techie, so I cant tell you if its true or not. But, I know that its possible. For example, right now, SETI (Search of Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) has a screen saver that you can download. When your screen saver is on, and you are connected, it lends your processor to the SETI server, so they can use your processor power to analyze huge amounts of data that they receive from the Arecebo satelite (and other satelites) to see if there are smart aliens trying to communicate (They're looking for radio waves).

So the technology exists. I imagine that some hacker has been able to design a program that allows them to download it to your PC, to steal processor power. They then use the processor power to crack high encryption levels to gain access to encrypted sites (Banking, FBI, CIA, other sensitive sites).... Maybe im just paranoid, but I think that my PC is undergoing it right now. Every now and then, it seems that my PC 'Skips'. My cursor seems to freeze-unfreeze-freeze-unfreeze etc.. for about 10 - 15 seconds every now and then. Maybe the pauses are my processor power being commandeered by a hacker. I plan to reformat my HD sometime this summer to get rid of anything I dont know about.

Recently I read an article in a dutch computer magazine where they wrote about Kazaa. And indeed Kazaa can be using your computer for third party tasks without asking your permission. How it all works? I really don't know. But I did get rid of Kazaa because of this and it's spyware. So I only use AG now and I really have no problem with Gator or so like many others have. I don't get any banners on my screen...

OMG DONT USE KAZZA. THEY DO HAVE THIRD PARTY STUFF RUNNING ON YOUR COMP AND IT RUNS SPEREATE FROM KAZZA. USE KAZZA LITE. ONE MAJOR PROBLEM IS JUST UNINSTALLING KAZZA WONT GET RID OF IT EITHER. IM TRYING TO FIND THE UNISTALL GUIDE AND ARTICAL AS I WRITE THIS. YOU NEED TO DELETE A PART OF THE REGISTRY TOO. THE SOFTWARE INSTALLED, USES YOUR COMP TO WORK FOR THEM ETC I UNINSTALLED IT ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. KEEP THIS THREAD ALIVE ADN ILL POST THE DETAILS HERE.

i did read a artical that kazza has built in progrmas that in the future will run programs on kazza users cpu's, and thus using their cpu power, though this hasnt been turned on yet. but in the future this could lead to kazza users giving away thier cpu power without releasing (as whos goning to read all of the terms and conditions) to someone who may gain financialaly from it.

one example could be the cancer research project that tranceaddict uses, the person who makes the spyware could make all the computers run the code to get the results, then take credit for these results even though they never run a program on their computer to et these results

my advice is to not use kazza at all, unless you really need to as soon this feature in the spyware in kazza will get turned on.

sorry if this doesnt makes sense, but its late and i need sleep!

Jon

What we could do is..Get abunch of us together, probe and get a huge exploit on Kazaa, Sue them, Put them out of buisness, It is ILLEGAL TRESSPASSING! Do you people know anything about computer laws or anything? If anything, It is the same as hacking,But thy are using it at their advantage, Not messing anything up, Just killing your computer slowly! (This guy is cute by the way!)

heheh good idea but...

it would be pointless and the courts would tell you to fuck off, as it will probably say in that signing up agreement bit that we all never read and just click ok, something like:

'i agree to let kazaa use my computer to run 3rd party software'

in which case, there isnt a single computer law to protect you as its done with ur permission.

i know its shitty, but ppl should really start gettin used to reading those agreements...
