it depends on several things

like, a friend of me checked out the price to press 100 copies of a song, and that would have costed him around $120 US.

but you should check around before you take any decission.

the prices variate from place to place (as they do with all other things)

100 copies? for $120?

thats around £70. I think thats cheap as fuck!

average UK release costs like £5 each. So a 100 X £5 means it would cost £500 for a 100 copies. Surely it is cheaper to buy a released tune than to get your own pressed?

If what you say is correct then its like

$1.2 per 12"
or
70p per 12"

Surely this cannot be correct

this was from a chezh label/pressing company..

chezh = much cheaper than uk

but ofcourse, with shipping / taxes / etc etc, it would have probably costed almost the same.

it's probably also a question about quality

for me, quality goes before quantity (quanity whatever)

so do think of that too

its much better to have few vinyls in very good quality, than lots of them, in bad quality

The more you press onto vinyl the less it costs per unit. But the cheapest I've seen in Britain is £30 per vinyl. So its best to get about 3 tracks per side on vinyl, but this reduces the quality as the tracks are compressed more.

to press vinyl you need to make a...ehh...."mal"..(dunno what the english word is, it's like a metal record). That costs pretty much , don't know exactly....anyways if you want to press 1 copy you will need one....and if you need 100 copies you will need one too, so it gets cheaper relatively with larger quantities.

Well, verminator was almost right, but also a little mistaken. The Czech company that presses vinyls is called GZ digital media and their website is at www.gzcd.cz. The replication of records is really cheap, for 200 12" one vinyl costs 78p (uk pence). However, to be able to press these, you need to make a master record, which costs 120ukp, and delivery which costs 35UKP minimum...

GZ isn't all that great for pressing a small amount of vinyls, places like
independent pressing might be cheaper in the end, and they are supposed to be quite good quality too.. (GZ quality is okayish)

If you want only a copy or two, pressing vinyls might not be the best choice. Acetate pressing usually costs something like 50UKP for a twosided acetate, however, acetates wear a lot quicker than proper vinyls..
