tracks that sound better at 33 rpm

so i had been listening to this gorgeous john beltran record on styrax leaves that has four tracks from his 1995 earth & nightfall album since i got it a few weeks ago at 33 rpm.

i heard some samples online and subsequently realized it was written to be played at 45 rpm.

it's so much more powerful to me slowed down to 33, so deep and calming. i'll put together samples.

there is a female voice on one of the tracks 'synaptic transmission' which sounds completely haunting and beautifully androgenous at 33 rpm.

anyone else have any records they prefer to listen to at 33?

Good find!

I personally like some of the tracks in their original state as well, but the slow-down does enhance certain elements of the mood building eloquently. Sometimes, the 'boomier' slothful bass is all I need to feel chilled and low-key. Delivered!

Indeed... nice find.

even though i like it at either speed but Skanna - This Way. works both as an atmospheric piece of jungle on it's original speed or as a deeper broken beat track on 33 as played on Nick Warren's back to mine.

When I first bought a copy of 'Three Drives on a Vinyl - Greece 2000' from S2 Records. It came with the Original Mix & DJ Tatana Syrup Remix on the A side, and the DJ Shog remix on the B side.

The A side plays at 33RPM, but the B side plays at 45RPM. Well, at the time I didn't know that, so I played the DJ Shog remix @ 33RPM and it's absolutely sick slowed down like that.

I then found out about 5 months later that it was meant to be played @ 45RPM. I was saddened by what I heard.

Greece 2000 (DJ Shog Remix) @ 33RPM = roughly 100BPM.

one of my fave tunes of all time.

A Split - Second - Flesh [1986]

vs.

some claim it helped start the whole new beat genre, which was first called Belgian Beat, because belgain dj DJ Marc Grouls started playing it at 33 instead of 45.
