It seems to me that most people consider themselves to be a perfectionist. In job interviews, I heard a reporter once say, it was the best 'bad thing' one could have. But, personally, I don't think being a perfectionist is a good thing at all: I often see talented people never getting anything done because it's never good enough.

I've been trying to get rid of perfectionism myself for quite a while, as it is deeply embedded in my worldview because of the way I was raised. Hell, we do live in a competitive society, and being the best is seen as some kind of ultimate goal. Ironically, in spite of my efforts, I haven't achieved perfection in my quest for non-perfectionism (I can't even write a poorly formatted post and let it be ), but I really need to snap out of it.

What about you? What are your views on perfectionism? Are you a perfectionist?

I think the definition of a "perfectionist" is different to everyone, too.

Edit - I'm perfect.

Me. Fuck that shit. I actually thrive with a desk that is fucking chaos to everyone but myself. I can't fucking work in a sterile, perfectly organized area.

My living space is usually pretty clean. Not clean freak clean, but things picked up, dishes done or at most a couple in the sink from that day, garbage not overflowing, bathroom cleaned up, etc.

Mine isn't: My studies are my top priority, and work comes next. I only do the dishes before going to bed (and if I've got enough time, that is, otherwise I just let it sit on the sink), and I cleaned my apartment up just a couple of times last month.

I consider myself quite imperfect but I expect my work (papers, research, products of my time and energy) to be perfect.

Too many people are not conscientious. They do things wrong and don't care.

My studies and work (research and development) are my top priority also but I can't live in a pigpen. I need things organized and clean because then it seems my mind is able to relax and focus on what is important.

perfectionist? eeeeeeeeeeeeeeh sometimes. I don't like to stress out, and being a perfectionist is nothing but stress. Plus I realized I'm usually happier when I'm not worried about perfection, and just let things happen

I'm far from a perfectionist. I usually get halfway through something and then I'm done with it
