Question Why the near universal hatred for deadmau5?

I've been here for 4yrs but for the last couple I've only been an occasional visitor. Seems when I 'came back' that there isn't much love for, in fact quite a vocal mocking (perhaps even hate!), for deadmau5? Why? I've heard quite a lot of material and whilst I don't love it I don't hate it either. It is just unremarkable.

Is it because the material is overhyped? overplayed? unoriginal? or something else?

Someone should merge all the threads on this topic just to see how long it'd be. It would probably disrupt some sort of space/time continuum.

I didn't realise he wore the mousehead while he was DJing. He looks like Frank Sidebottom!

I feel people start threads just to see if he replies in them.

Taste is subjective. There are plenty of big-name producers that I find lackluster, but that doesn't mean I need to the world to hear about it to validate my opinion. deadmau5 is probably their whipping boy because of his quick rise to fame with tunes they believe have no merit.

"Oh no, not another Deadmau5 thread."

There, now that's out of the way.

It's because the squeakiest wheels are mau5hater5. Really, that's what it comes down to. And most of TA doesn't take well to "OH MY GOD [insert current flavor here] IS A GOD AND I WOULD SUCK HIM OFF FOR FREE!", so, you're going to hear a lot more bashing than worship.

Also, Deadmau5 is accessible via these forums, so they have fun stirring the pot.

Simple.

Personally it's because it all sounds the same. Also because of shitty electro house like Hi Friend. Also because his album must be one of the lamest to have been released by anybody in years. Also because 80% of all the sets that he does are comprised of his own productions. I could go on, those are the main sticking points for now.

How is this a valid criticism?

I think his best production is Creep!

He should be praised for that. He did some good stuff, but yeah, Cygnus X Remix was the low point so far..

But if he's an idiot as a person.. 80% of the dance industry is full of idiots Thats why we like the scene so much!
