New Sound Design Course

Hi all,

I am currently creating my next video tutorial course which will be called "Sound Design".

I thought I would ask you guys if there is anything in particular that you would like to see/expect in a course like this?

I will be covering subjects like bass and kick drum creation, pads, sfx and leads but also things like sampling techniques, real world sound manipulation, synthesis etc and will be using hardware and software.

Any and all ideas appreciated and will be considered for inclusion on the course.

all the best,

Mark

Yo,

Well having listened to the track i would say that its not that difficult, the rolling bassline pattern is "generic" at best and the sound, well yeah nice bass, but again i am sure i can get very close using a multitude of vsts or my hardware, but then i guess you will just have to wait until the course is released to see if i include it

Nice idea, all though the course will NOT be about making any specific GENRES sounds, I will endevour to meet any reoccuring requests which is what i am after

Well if you can get that bass sound I'd be impressed, cause for sure no tutorial I've ever seen comes even close. Sure the give you the usualy generic stock info - 3 detuned saws, yada yada, but it's more or less useless as they don't know or possibly don't even know they don't know because thier ears are'nt sufficiently zoned in to tell the difference between a generic rolling bass and one like that on Akessons track.

I recetly bought Gladiator and 99% of the sounds are lame and quaint, but no where near the game.

hey,

I understand completely what you are referring too and could probably find you 1000`s of those generic multiple saw wave answers easily as i am sure you can. I have also been guilty of giving them out in the past due to lazy-ness on my part.

If you are unimpressed with gladiator may i recommend a few others that you might try.

Check out
Zebra 2
Sylenth (free i think)
KarmaFX Synth
Vaz Modular
Reaktor
Cronox 2/3
FM8

To name a few.

If i have time in the next couple of days i might give the bass a go to see whats what, maybe even try it on Gladiator so if i can help you out at all.

all the best,

Mark

HI,

Well there will definately be videos on creating large layered pads and leads.

There will also be videos on how to make several different bass type sounds although the focus of the videos wont be trance per se, it will be sound design, i.e how you actually design specific sounds, how the building blocks are put together etc.

anyhoo thanks for suggestions so far doodes

Mate, there are tons of these generic how to make sounds tbh. I just bought Rick Snowmans dance music manual which has vids - what a joke, the whole thing is more or less useless. Also the author is from the vast idiotic school of know nothing theorists that say things like the bass must always be centred and in mono - mmm try telling Ferry Corsten that one!

Good luck with it, btw, I'm not seeking to undermine you in any way, just giving input is all which you can take or leave.

Yo,

The type of sounds i am talking about are your normal sounds, kick bass, leads pads etc but also things like explosions using real life sound layering.

But its not just this type of thing, i am also covering things like sample mangling using samplers to create whole new instruments and timbres.

Also i will be showing you how to create your own synths using Reaktor and synth edit (and probably karmafx synth) to create your own unique multi/single purpose tools.

I will also be covering synthesis types in detail and also more less known parameters in synthesis and their use, things like key follow and the like.

Also i will be showing the use of effects and audio manipulation to create unexpected and new timbres.

The course itself will not be about "sounds for trance" etc more like how to create sounds from scratch or unexpected material to gain a new and fresh timbre as well as deeper appreciation of audio manipulation in general, there will be a wide scope of subjects covered.

I am aiming to show/teach people how to be more creative in the use of audio/synthesis/sampling manipulation to be more original in their music. Also this course will be useful for sound to video as it will teach you how to create things like evolving timbres, sfx and the like.

Mark

I would be totally amazed if you can make this sound.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nCEazvVkx4
It starts at 0:31 , its the high bassline that goes around the stereo.

I know its a sawtooth or something.. But I know there is something behind it.. FM? AM? PM? Argh!!
