i was just sort of curious about this.

how did it go from the gay black disco clubs in chicago, to the suburban white teenagers, who coincidentally were mostly computer geeks.

im talking in terms of the people who dj and produce it now.

Black people were into it for the soul. White kids were into it for the geekiness. Black people found plenty of other ways to make soulful music... there aren't many ways this geeky to make music.

A majority of black people don't listen to their music because it "has soul". They listen to gangster rap because it's like a fantasy of getting money, fucking bitches, smoking weed, and wearing shiny jewelry.

I was referring to the black people in Chicago that were into house, not black people in general. Also, I was being at least halfway facetious.

Sounds fulfilling.

I know a few black people who are not like this, and they are pretty cool.

I don't like house, and I fit the geek stereotype... it sounds like elevator music with the exception of a few more funky tracks I do enjoy.

Because techno made sense to europeans who were making electronic music that inspired the black techno producers in the first place. Also, europeans have a history of patronizing black music from the americas - jazz, soul, dub etc.

These guys inspired a ton of people in europe and eventually Europeans just started to do it by themselves.

Anyways, it was never really that huge in the united states, it was always underground music.

LoveHate: I can't link you right now because I'm at the office and YouTube is blocked, but search for a documentary called "The History of House Music". It's nearly 2 hours long and divided into 20 parts or something. It's really awesome.
