Not that this is helpful, but from the videos that FLS Vocoder looks unmatched.

Orange Vocoder is a classic if you can find it. Logic internal vocoder is very good as well.

Yes. If I was in the market for a new vocoder, I wouldn't waste my money on anything else - Vocodex is awesome. It's so much clearer and more intelligible than any other that I've used and the price is unbeatable, especially when you compare it to the Orange vocoder, Vokator (no longer available), etc. The only issue you might have with Vocodex is that I don't think it gets as nasty/dirty/gritty as some of the others, but TAL can handle that end of the spectrum.
Others I've used and like:
- Waves Morphoder
- RGC Pentagon (a subtractive synth bundled with Sonar, but may be available separately - has a great built-in vocoder IMO)
- mda Vocoder & Talkbox - don't let the simple interfaces dissuade you - these plugins are free and some are very good.
Also, I haven't used it, but have heard good things about (and examples of) 4ormulator.

Damn it i've just seen there's a demo of vocodex available. I'm sure there wasn't last time I looked. The inbuilt carrier is powered by Sytrus too. Sweet! I always thought Sytrus was madly underrated.
I've tried Orange and wasn't really a fan but i'll look into those other options too.
$99 is a bargain as well tbh. Works out to about £60
I shall make many robot tarnce for teh show
edit - I think all the MDA stuff is on my Cubase install disk. I must check

Same here. I tried it years ago and wasn't very impressed, especially for that price (it was around $400 IIRC!!!). Also, the demo version jacked up my OS and I couldn't get it completely off my HD until I reformatted.
I wish ImageLine would give registered FLS owners a big break on the VST version of Vocodex. I mean, we already have it in FLS9, but I don't use FLS at all except to rewire it into Sonar/Cubase for Vocodex, so it would be nice if I could get the VST version of Vocodex for dirt cheap (free would be even nicer).

That's wierd.
Wierd because I know I can open up Sytrus etc as VSTs in Cubase (i used to use FL) but now you've mentioned it I can't use the FL effects.
Does vocodex not install as a .dll (that you can drag over to Sonar) in FL9 then?

I don't think so. I think I looked into that just after getting the FLS9 beta and it looked like Vocodex was integrated into FLS (i.e., not a .dll). I may have to look into it again, unless someone else knows the answer.
