i'm currently living in waterloo with 5 people who seem this still think that deadmau5 and david guetta are the be all and end all of house music. i'm gonna snap if i head Ghost's N Stuff or sexy bitch one more time.
i'm finding it hard to help them understand what creative and talented dj'ing is (ie. digweed, sasha, hernan, etc). seemingly their idea of a party isn't creative dj's like those guys, but rather heavy continuous beats with bad lyrics.
any suggestions as to how i might phase them out of their annoying music habits?

haha if that were only an option. i'm only there until the end of the summer and then i'm off to france for my last semester of school. i'm trying to instil in my roommates what makes a DJ good and creative and what constitutes good electronic music.

stop being such a dick about it. im sure they probably think the same thing about what you consider to be good music. just because you like digweed/sasha/etc does not mean they have to. music, like any form of art, is quite subjective. let them be.
deadmau5 is bad music? the guy is quite a brilliant producer (and marketer for branding himself) and probably makes more than all your favourite djs combined. just because his music is not your cup of tea does not mean it is bad.

so there ya go - suck it up for 2 months and then forget about them you can't force people to listen to "your" music, just because you think "their" music is bs
they have to come to that themselves trust me, I used to be heavy into r'n'b/top40 rap crap 6 years ago, and then I just stopped and went back to my EDM routes

become a popular dj and know when to drop the more commercial stuff and work your style into that. If you get a following and regulars you will be able to shape your crowd including your roommates if you do it subtly and methodically.

true i guess it just takes time with people transitioning between music types. i guess when you have giant club sized speakers in your house that blast their annoying music every single day, you kind of get sick of it. that's my only complaint.
deadmau5 is a fantastic producer and marketer of himself, but as a DJ he's got a long way to go.

since you live in waterloo i can tell you welcome to hip hop nation lol.
you wont hear a drop of edm in any of the tri-cities, apart from what you listen to.
(speaks from experience)
p.s the chicks in the tri-cities are very uptight and deserve a good smacking.
