Awesome booking, I've been looking forward to his return to Montreal. I missed him at Circus last time, was going to Stereo that weekend. Anyone go? How was his set? He was awesome opening for Dubfire last April. He's my favorite producer at the moment, his tracks and remixes always have such a sexy vibe, thick bass lines and crisp percussion.. he's always experimenting with drum kits too, as his tracks are all different yet he still has his own "sound." There was a really good article on beatport about him last month, lately he's mixing on Traktor with 2 X1s these days...

I've yet to go to UN, we're always talking about it but even my non-house music loving friends LOVE going to Daome so we always end up there. I've heard the soundsystem is great, and so's the crowd. I'm guessing there's no tickets, just show up early? What's cover?

I've been waiting for his return for a while. I went for Dubfire, but Missed his opener though. Caught him at the Gaya Fest and had the chance to chat with him a bit. He's been a favorite of mine for the last year and bit, his tracks are spot on, really get its and has that signature sound. Deep, Sexy, Chuggy...UN's the perfect spot for the evening. Looking forward to this one.

for my bachelor party fest last year, we caught him in Gallary for a 5 hour and then followed him to zone the next night for a 4 hour set...

i heard his set wasn't very good at circus, same kind of tracks over and over. also his productions are pretty repetitive, and his kick drum is always the same just tuned differently with different variations of the same percussion and timbre detail. either take a break from releasing or just release your best stuff. I honestly do not get the hype about this guy. I guess anyone warming up for Dubfire will get this much of attention.

and does anyone else think watching djs with just a laptop and controllers is boring? might as well make the mix in a studio, press play, sit back and have a drink. i know some of you guys will fire back about looping and all that shit, but its just not appealing to me...i like to see djs mix and beatmatch and not just stare at their laptop screen.

You're right he does have a lot of Productions that have very similar sounds and I know what you mean by that. For example,
His tracks Back Spin & Je Taime are very close to each other.
One of the few haven't had the chance to see, that's why I'm looking forward to catching him and then seeing for myself.

I agree with you on the whole Laptop DJ set up....Its not appealing to me either, especially if they're not reading the crowd and especially the enviroment. I understand working with one and what it does enable one to do, giving you more tools to put on a better show, but when its strictly a laptop...its pretty dull imo.

In the summer, we went to check Calderone at Gaya fest...the entire time, he was staring into his laptop completley zoned out and paying no attention to how the crowd was receving it. For all we knew, it was from a previous set the night before cause it did not blend at all with the setting. Since then I completely lost interest and I was a die hard Victor Fan since 02.

Before that we saw Audio Fly, with a Pair of Decks and Mixer.
Wasn't my first choice of tunes...but they were really working it,
experimenting with the crowd & their music, reading and seeing what moved the crowd. They had a lot of showmanship and took chances.
For that I'd go see them again.
