Read This! Religions (beliefs.of.lifE)

Okay a while back I started a thread regarding atheism... one which got some really pertinent ideas from some of the ppl here. As I have recently began studying more and more into the mythology of cultures and the afferent religions and beliefs (at this time I am studying Satanism), I thought of starting out something about.. well conceptions of misconceptions about what's these days become quite a hot subject.

So just post whatever U think of the subject of religions and their representants...

peace out! and believE!

You study Satanism? Just out curiousity or do you practicize it too? I think it's good that you study on these subject, to get to know more about the "invisible world". What's your belief? Or R u an atheist? In that case it is intersesting that you DO study satanism, because satan also is some sort of god (of the underworld).

Actually, no. Satan is originally known as the arch-angel Lucifer. One day he questioned why it was God loved humans more than his angels, so he and some of his fellow angels revolted. God and the arch-angel Michael punished them and sent them to Hell.

I am an atheist/agnostic. Why do I know that right there? Because I was a Catholic. But then I realized it was bull shit. I couldn't figure out what made humans so special, that we got a heaven, and other animals didn't. That and the Christian religion is so hypocrytical. God isn't loving or any of that bullshit. Just read the bible and you'll see PLENTY of quotes of your God telling his people to rape, murder, kidnap, commit genocide, etc, etc. If anything, he's a God of War Crimes. If you want, I could list a few examples, from both New and Old Testament.

And I study religion as well. Right now I'm currently studying Islam. Not because of the terrorists. I've been studying it for a few years now. But I'm just trying to find the Necromonican...

the actual term for my belief is:

Atheist-Agnostic

and no i didn't make that up, there are two forums of Agnostic. Agnostic-Agnostic is for people who can't think very hard, imo.

why...erg...i've said it so many times it's hurt my head but if someone wants to know, just ask.

Weird how some of the people most interested in religion as a subject are atheist themself. I have a teacher who's dad was a minister and grew up studying the bible and such but now as an adult is an atheist. He knows all about the Catholic religion and has distinct and relevent reasons that he does not believe in it. I myself think people don't give enough attention to other religions beside their own. If they did this they could take the good parts of other religions and incorporate them into their own life but still keep their one main religion.

There's nothing wrong with learning from other religions, but to accept the teaching of any religion at face value - particularly when you accept the teachings of one religion ahead of all others - you're running into trouble. If you're a Christian, then I can only ask why you reject the Islam faith and vice versa.

Religion can teach us some important things, but if you adhere to a specific religion then I feel that you're missing out on a lot.

For the record, I'm an atheist.

Well, I kinda meant 'learn from other religions'...maybe actually incorporating things from other religions might be too much. For example, one of the premises for the Budhist (sp?) is 'balance'...not too tight yet not too weak makes for the best.

No offense dav,but isn't this term really a huge contradiction? An atheist believes there is no such thing as a higher power. An agnostic doesn't believe because he/she isn't certain about whether there isn't a higher power or not(that's the definition I've been told, anyways). How can you be both these things at the same time?

Well a "gnostic" is one who professes esoteric knowledge (and there's a specific Christian connetation to all this I believe) so an "agnsotic" would be one who doesn't profess this sort of knowledge.

In modern parlance, an agnostic is one who doesn't know precisely what they believe in, or if they believe in anything or not (i.e. 50% of the population - "I believe in something, but I don't know what") whereas an atheist is someone who believes in nothing mystical at all in this sense.

If you are an "atheist-agnostic" davinox, either you are much more familar with etymology and semantics than I am, or you've created an entire new position that fuses the concepts of "uncertain belief" and "no belief" together in an unholy matrimony.

I personally think most religion is a buncha bs, i mean people try so hard to be perfect.....they are crazy in the head, two of my freinds have hardcore Christian parents who are all nice around people but can go crazy its really scary, and my friends are just rebels to them and to everything they dont want them to do......I especially hate whne people try to force religion on other people, like my parents who make me go to booooooooorrrrrrrinnnnnnnnggggg church sometimes, or the people that come by your door, my 2 cents, im personally Agnostic

This is an interesting thread!

I'm an atheist, but i was raised to be a christian. I started to watch Discovery channel at the age of 7 or so, and when one thing in the bible after another gets repelled, you start to think that too. I can't believe in something wich is not proved, and where all the evidence is against it. Christians are explaining the bible differently every time, because there's always some evidence against it, so they say you have to interpret it in another way.....again.

Even when there would be a religion that was proved to be true, with evidence and all, I wouldn't believe in it, because if we just had a world without religion, there would be al LOT less agression, most of the wars that are going on or are finisched, have been there because of religion, so I can't be one of the hypocrits who tell everybody to love your neighbour, and simultaniously kill everybody because they don;t believe the same thing!!

And as an atheist, I'm always curious in how religious people can even try to believe those things, because I can't imagine it.

just for the record, who's second?
