Dunno The gradual slowdown

I've been spinning for 3 months now and improving a lot every week. But I have a question about making the records slowly come to a stop. (Example - Listen to the PvD set live @ Mayday 2002. He does is it at the very end to Dreamland). I've never actually watched a DJ do it, but here's how do it. I put my finger on the plater and sort of slow it down a little and then press stop on the turntable and at the same time spin the platter making the record slowly come to a hault. It does'nt always work though and sometimes doesnt sound right.

My friend has a pair of non-technics. (I think Numark maybe) but on his theres a reverse button he presses 1st, then hits stop and it does the slowdown. He says u need the reverse button to do it. Is this true? I don't think so because 95% of all places use technics so I don't think its that. Can someone fill me in on the correct way to do the slowdown. Thanks in advance!

All I do is turn off the power to the deck as it's spinning. As simple as that.

Cool

experimentation is the key, seriously, i mean u can turn it off, what is also interesting to do is to turn it off and quickly spin back because the record won't slow down eventually after the spinback, it just seems to gather the friction and stop dead fart on, always a good way to live life, plus your own farts always smell nice (yes, i am drunk)

This is just too funny. If you want to start the record again you should spin the platter with your hand, then quickly hit the start button.

that's easy! with CDJ's you have to spin the jogdial backward until it starts making a grinding noise... then...spin it backwards some more until the plastic starts showing little cracks. then.... spin it some more....

easy as pie!

if you have the pioneer cdj 100s it's fairly easy

just use the zip function and jog it left very slowly...

otherwise you can pitch it down and rwnd at the same time...that might work...haven't tried though
