MONTREAL - Revellers at a Chinese restaurant rang in the New Year with a booze-fuelled brawl that caused thousands of dollars in damage.
A Youtube video shows 50 black and Asian patrons smashing each other with chairs and beer bottles, leaving the restaurant's carpets stained with blood.
The brawl broke out on New Year's Day around 4 a.m. at the New Dynasty Restaurant in the downtown Chinatown district.
The restaurant owner tells QMI Agency that a petty dispute between the two groups degenerated into an all-out rumble as another patron filmed the scene.
"There was a black guy who threw a cup at a Vietnamese guy," said the owner, who wouldn't give his name.
"The guy retaliated, and then everyone got involved. They threw chairs, plates, cups, saucers and even soy sauce bottles."
Damage was extensive as patrons ripped up furniture to pummel their adversaries. Nearly every wall in the dining room was damaged and even the ceiling was punctured.
The owner says no one was seriously injured, though one man was taken to hospital after his cheek was slashed by a broken plate.
He adds it will cost tens of thousands of dollars to repair the damage.
"They broke everything," he said, shaking his head. "Let's just say it's not the way I wanted to start the New Year. This is what happens when young people drink too much and don't know how to control themselves.
No one was arrested and police say they likely won't investigate unless someone files a complaint.

Yes, its good there were no guns but honestly, with the aim that people had in the video, you were just out to break shit, not actually hit anyone.
