Since that JOC & Friends party during WMC, I haven't seen shit booked. Thank the lord I'm up in the northeast where the promoters know what they are doing.

Don't blame it on the promoters, blame it on the patrons. Promoters aren't booking trance acts because 1. there isn't enough support 2. when they do book someone everyone bitches and doesn't support (just STFU and go and it would of lead to bigger things) and 3. the bar numbers suck ass when venues book trance acts, it's not worth the investment at all.

Everyone is so quick to jump on the promoters and venues for this stuff but when in actuality we as patrons need to take a good hard look at ourselves when we go out. Sure things are expensive for a night but at the end of the day it's better than not having any of your favorite music around the city you live. Just my .02 cents

Well I'm not going to give my money to them if they only book craptrance like Gareth and shit like that, why should I just STFU and give my money to a dj who plays the same set in every city. I do speak with my money, when the party is deserving I have no problem spending money. In 3 weeks I'm spending money to travel from Cape Cod to NYC for barely a day to see Askew and then head right back to work the next day. The trance promoters have all but disappeared since WMC.

It's ok for me, because after ucforange opened my eyes to the other genres I don't give a fuck as much. I can wait an entire year for a quality dj to come to Miami if I have to, but I definitely won't be giving any promoters/venues my hard earned money just to support them bringing the same shit here for the yolo idiots.

I think there is definitely truth to what Donnie says about the bar numbers sucking ass when trance is booked. A lot of people that come out for trance don't normally go out to see other things and they aren't in the habit of spending money at clubs to see a DJ. It is true that the two populations are quite different...obviously there is some carry-over though and you'll get some people that are in to electronic music as a whole (like us).

The club's #1 duty is to make money first and foremost and they simply don't make enough just off ticket sales for trance. Places like Mansion, Story, Space have enormous bills and aren't making real money unless they have a club full of guests ordering liquor.

Still though, Esscala is making it work in NYC. I know Miami has a smaller scene but something tells me the promoters in Florida haven't been as assertive and innovative as they could be.

I'm sure it was, A&B are huge DJs. I'm talking about the smaller, headier names like Rank 1, John Askew, Super 8 & Tab, MIKE, Chicane, etc.

FL doesn't get any of those guys, not anymore at least. Looking back on it, the Andy Moor booking in Tampa in 2011 was huge (and the place wasn't very full at all and I remember how dead the bar was). We don't get that shit anymore.

To be honest the bottom floor was packed. We didn't sell enough tickets or patrons to open the top room. To put it in perspective we really weren't packed at all. We have capacity for 683 patrons and think we just tipped over the 500 mark for people through the door all night. So was it really that packed? I shouldn't be saying this buuuuut the bar numbers were some of the worst we ever had. There is a reason they weren't brought back. I think we barely broke even that night from what I remember. That was one of those parties that didn't make money but it was good for the venue because it was a good party and vibe and helped expose to the club to different clientele.

I'm one of the few in here with the unique opportunity of being on both sides of the coin (fan and venue) and giving you the perspective from the venue and promoters. That's what I've seen with my own eyes happen and that's what I've been told from other people who have booked Trance acts down here. More often than not trance bookings lose money.

In my personal opinion I don't think there really is any demand left for Trance since it has gone the way of fluffy pop music with big snyths. Just look what is happening in the NYC forum. How much talk of there is trance compared to all the chatter about techno/deep house? Hell even in here you guys are finally coming around to deep and techno scenes.
