Shame / Disagreement RON Maclean VS. CBC

What are people's opinions on this hot issue....
CBC has decided not to renew Ronnie Mac's contract for HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA.....!!!!
This is an outrage....he makes the show!
Ya , i know Don Cherry is great and I love him too, But I mean who is Don Cherry without Ron Maclean.....And vice versa!
Its like separating Siskel from Ebert.....Before he passed away of course.
It just wont be the same coaches corner without Ron....
currently , i think theyve just re-opened talks .....but regardless. This man is part of our culture and he deserves to be paid a hell of a lot of money to be the co-host of HNIC......

What do you think

everyone said the same thing about Dave Hodge just before he left too. Yeah, I feel he does deserve a little more because he does a lot more than just hockey.

I feel bad for whomever takes Maclean's spot, he's got real big shoes to fill.

It's so stupid, Ron maclean is a great guy. He is always around the local hockey rinks, eithier watching or refereing games. They should pay him what he wants.

On a side note, I think it's kinda obvious who would replace him, they would put Kelly Hreudy in there.

You're kidding right? I think Kelly Hreudy is horrible! I can't see Cherry and Hreudy having any chemistry between them. I say they put in Ed the Sock, now that would kick ass!

I think it's about time they gave that jackass the axe. He's always interupting Don Cherry; it makes me so mad. Ask the question and let the man speak! Christ!

And did you see the Gary Bettman interview just after the Olympics? That was aweful! I wanted to punch McClean out.

It's evident that Ron doesn't know what hockey is really about. That's what pisses me off. If it were up to Ron McClean, Hockey would be a fucking gay league of ballet dancers.

IMO, people to replace Ron McClean are a dime a dozen.

CBC, Ron MacLean to resume negotiations
Last Updated Wed, 02 Oct 2002 20:06:25

TORONTO - Talks between Ron MacLean and the CBC are back on.

Face to face meeting scheduled for Thursday
CBC Television made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, in a terse, two-sentence news release. The move comes after fans, politicians and corporate sponsors raised a national outcry demanding the CBC re-sign MacLean as host of Hockey Night in Canada.

An example of just how seriously some hockey fans are taking the news: on Wednesday two of them stood in front the CBC Broadcasting Centre in downtown Toronto carrying a sign that read 'Honk for Ron.'

Over the last two days the CBC has been inundated with thousands of e-mails, phone calls and demands to keep MacLean on the air.

Hockey Night in Canada's main sponsor, Labatt, has even waded into the debate asking the CBC to re-open negotiations. Now, CBC management say talks will resume.

The head of CBC media relations, Ruth Ellen Soles, sent out a news release saying: "CBC Television announced today (Wednesday) that it is re-opening negotiations with Ron MacLean through his agent, Don Meehan. All parties have agreed that effective immediately there will be no further comment until the negotiations have concluded."

"I'm going on a basis whereby I'm pleased that they've called ... given what's transpired to date. But I can't afford to be optimistic or pessimistic," said Meehan.

A face to face meeting between the two sides is scheduled for Thursday.

News of MacLean's departure from Hockey Night in Canada was made public on Monday. Ever since, hockey fans across Canada have been making their voices heard. Meehan says the groundswell of support for MacLean should prove Canadians care deeply about the game, the show and the public broadcaster.

"It's been amazing. I've spent 22 years representing players and I've never seen a reaction of this nature before. And it's a reaction that's developed across the country."

Talks are expected to resume on Thursday - just nine days before the new season of Hockey Night in Canada begins.

I hope he gets what he wants.
I love the banter between him and Cherry.
