And by soundtracks, I mean original scores, not the collection of already released music that has been used in association with the movie. It's a category of music I've thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated for as far back as I can remember, but it's only recently that I've begun to collect my favorite pieces and take note of my favorite composers. Great shout, one of my favourites. Poledouris' score almost single-handedly elevates what is eseentially quite a shoddily made piece of sword 'n sourcery shlock into the realms of epic cinema.

Some other favourites: The Good The Bad & The Ugly (Morricone, natch), Aguirre: Wrath Of God (Popul Vuh, for hipster points), Enter The Dragon (Lalo Schifrin, the sound of the '70s, at his best), Bladerunner (oh come on), Stakeland (heavy flawed film, but beautiful melancholic score)...

One of my absolute favourites is the obscure and unused original score to Hellraiser, by Coil:



As legend has it, Clive Barker himself commissioned Coil to score the film. But the studio suits were so nauseated by the end product because it was so perfectly creepy, they opted to go with Christopher Young in commercial interest of the film.

I love this soundtrack. Sets the mood of every moment in the movie perfectly.

heat. awesome film and instant classic... bonus points for moby god moving over the waters at the end.

nearly watched the facebook film because trent scored it, alas - didn't.

Trent and Atticus' work really was the best part of that film, if you ask me. Same goes for Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

has a sneaky listen to trent's facebook OST, love that creepy ambient stuff - his OST for the game quake was mindblowing at the time, and elevated the game to even greater heights...

for balls out AWESOME, wang chung in 'to live & die in LA' is unbeatable.
