the TA forums are getting out of hand...

I love the TA forums, but the forums themselves are well, extremely irritating. Fighting through the 3+ popups that I get every time I load a new page was bad enough, now it has this crazy anti ad-buster pro crap, a little setup that eliminates anti-popup/anti-cookie programs. Worst part is, it FORCES ME TO TURN ON MY COOKIES, or it wont let me into the forums. I absolutely hate cookies... they track where you go, they hide themselves in a windows file (index.dat) where it becomes IMPOSSABLE to remove them without special software, and they pop up ads even when your computer is completely idle.

This is really getting rediculous. I understand mainting TA requires money. I dont mind putting up with a popup or two and banner ads. But the cookie requirements, and the latest batch of popups ive been getting are downright annoying. One stupid x10 ad that it popups sits and hides in the taskbar for a minute, then popups when you least expect it. Short of Alt+f4, there is no way to close it! If you press the little X on the right of the window, it just minimizes itself and waits a minute to popup again. Another ad opens a blank window in fullscreen mode (press f11 to understand how that works), causing your entire screen to be 100% COVERED in a blank page. Again, Alt+f4 is your only way out.

Please, get rid of this shit. Im not trying to be bitter, I love this board and the community on it, but this is commercialism to the extreme.

I third this comment.
The pop-ups are damn annoying I hate all forms of advertising. It's not as if any of the TA visitors are actually going to click on the pop-up ffs.
It's all about money obviously, there are other ways of making a site break-even.
With my site I've decided not to give in and put advertising on it, else it just drives visitors away, though as a result I'm paying in excess of £500per month to support the infrastructure.

Find me 1 credible source that can verify what you say about cookies. Cookies can ONLY be accessed by the SAME domain that created them, hence this issue of 'privacy' is moot. Further, no cookie ever contains vital info - usually nothing more than your userid (aka forums ID) or time of last access/ad displayed/page viewed. Cookies don't spawn popups either, that's dependent on the web pages currently open in your browser. The reason I block the cookies too is so that people don't get a popup every time after they disable their popup blocker.

Find out what cookies really do and then you'll understand their purpose - the reason you end up seeing popups on EVERY page is because you have cookies off and cookies are the way to check to see the last time you saw a popup and whether or not to show you one again - no cookie, means, popup for you every time.

That's way too much, PM me with what that gets you and I'll find another host for you.

Another easy way to close it is to right click on the pop up in the taskbar and then select close.

try this website:

AnalogX

It helps with those pop-up ads. You'll see them once, then you just select the popups you no longer want to see from the list of websites shown, and it zaps them off for you the next time you enter the website. Of course, you have to do this everytime a new popup ad comes in, but it works nicely for awhile.

Hope that helps.

hmm

i get one small popup once in a while, which is totally ok for me

i dont freak out of one small popup

and it doesnt even lead to something else when you close it.. lol
can't really see the harm in this

and as other peeps have mentioned so far, its only to right click and close or push alt-f4

its only a matter of seconds, and i dont really think that any of the users here on the forum are so important that only a few seconds is a matter of millions of $$$$
