Just wondering how many here are happy with your current setup and how long its been since your last purchase.

For a while I have bought something every few weeks working on addng to my sonic arsenal. However, I am getting to the point where its hard to justify any new purchases as I already have a quality plugin for most of my interests and more.

Have any of you ever beat GAS for a sustained period of time?

I thought I beat it for good, than i just found out that a new DVS program for djing accepts VST instruments and effects that has an awesome GUI, Bummer.

I'm done for now. Got my tools together and really trying to get most out of everything.
I still can't gell with my maschine studio, arranging is way to complicated and workflow doesn't stick. So he might has to go.
Then there is the P6, which I'm going to add to my DSI collection. But futher i'm good
Not lurking at more outboard, haven't bought plugins for the last 3 years or so.

I'm done with GAS and have been for some time and it makes me feel somehow free and happy not being on the never ending GAS treadmill.
I am reading a book about when Homo Sapiens gave up hunter gathering for farming in settled communities, and from then on (12000 yrs ago) we've been on a relentless unending quest for a perfection we never reach. If we only had a plough for the wheat field life would be great, but then we found we needed a silo for the surplus grain, but then we needed warriors to protect our silos from other tribes, and so it goes, on and on, the promise of nirvana that never comes.

We were told washing machines and fridges, computers and email would free us up and give us more leisure time, but as with most 'advances' we end up busier than ever!

So it kind of frees my mind to have the determination to have ended my GAS quest. Sure this has some costs to my sound and mixing but I am content with this limitation.

Ok I would love more hardware synths / a modular system but by better halve would not allow such extravagance. Would one day like decent monitors but on the other hand it's kinda joyful having a fairly basic pallet of products as I find there is always something new to discover, even from Sylenth.

Someone once said that the key to a sound going from good to great lies in the smallest of adjustments and with this I agree.

My GAS has actually been pretty controllable for the past few years. I made a conscious decision a few years ago to downsize my studio and stick mostly to buying/keeping things that I actually use on a regular basis, and avoid/sell the rest.

That said, yes, I'm also going to upgrade to Omni2 when it's released, and I'm going to replace my Mopho X4 with a Sequential Prophet 6 this summer. I see those more as planned investments for things that I know will get used in most of my songs, whereas GAS (to me) is more like just buying everything that looks somewhat interesting just to have it. I'm *sorta* over that, although I do find ways to justify buying things when they're dirt cheap (e.g., Black Friday sales).

Yeah after Omni 2 I don't see myself buying any new plugins / hardware for a long while. Maybe a sample library here and there as needed but I don't ever feel limited by my tools going for a specific sound anymore. All the limitations I run into are ones I need to personally overcome, no plugin will help me at this point.

I have spent about $4000 total on my setup software and hardware combined, not counting my Macbook that I use while doing collabs or traveling for more than just production. I think back in the day that would be the amount you would spend to get started with some budget hardware, nowadays it gets you a very nice quality sound if you go all software.

Sure, but I've just never been a gearhead. I've used the exact same setup for years. Only recently I added a new DAW so I can use some VST plugins with Reason, but that's about it.

As much as I jest, there is a LOT to be said for a static, non-evolving setup.

My own GAS has more to do with finding what I like than just pure want. The TR8 is something I know I'll keep because it fits exactly with the way I want to work.
