Trance night in Sheffield, UK

To those in the UK and poss based in Sheffield. How big would you say setting up a trance night would be and where would u suggest I could base it?

So far, I have been told... Adelphi, Bed (one room) and republic if their available to hire out, and poss Unit or Fez Club?

Considering there are so many cheese nights here... along with the numerous r&b/hip hop and funky house nights... is there still a market? My proposal to the clubs is that, trance still lives, GC may have gone once a month... but should Kingdom kill of the trance genre with their cheesy stuff on Fri? I think there are still tons of cyber/crasher kids around who are fueling for a good decent trance night.

Me and my mates are willing to set it up, money shouldn't be a prob... when I get paid haha... but its the location and how big trance might be... I want trance to come back into the scene big time.

Right now it seems funky house is absolutely booming, but breaks and drum and bass is seeming to make a come back?

Anyone who can give me help on whether it be a good night, successful and poss what club to hire out. And with promotional issues, I was hoping for a silent coverage, if u dont know, u dont go... like an illegal rave kinda thing... using word of mouth, but i was told these days u have to have some sort promotion in terms of flyers and posters!

Thats a mad idea man. The Adlephi is a shit hole but it would be prolly cheap as fuck. Your best bet is either that or the republic. Its a good idea and i would be up for it.

What about the arches (where Headcharge is)

gotta be as cheap as fuck, but still a nice little club, underground feel to it, and it has railings to sit on (big bonus given your intended clientelle)

Alright guys!! Arches, where abouts is that? I have only been here since Jan this year, but still not quite familiar with the place... I think Bed is all out everynight anyway so thats out of the question. Republic is a good venue but I need to check up on prices first...

With regards to students, u think they would go to a trance night? I mean, on Fri its packed at Kingdom with all that cheesy shit they play. My set at Sweet Ginger was ok as my style is known as boarderline underground and cheesy? More underground... only cause i play the odd vocal trance now and then...

I mean my top tracks in my set that night (on 29-Oct) was...

Ayumi Hamasaki - M (Above & Beyond Typhoon Dub)
Ayumi Hamasaki - Whatever (Ferry Corsten Remix)
CJ Stone - The Sun (Goes Down) (Original Mix)
DJ Sammy feat. Carisma - Sunlight (DJ Shog Remix)
Klea - Tic Toc (Magik Muzik Mix Promo Vinyl)
DJ Kim - Jetlag (Alpha Zone Remix)
DJ Mind X - Voyage (Dogma Remix)
Eon - Pocket Damage (Original Mix)
Midway - Monkey Forest (Original Mix)
Ocean Lab - Clear Blue Water (Ferry Corsten Remix)
Plastic Boy - Silver Bath (Original Mix)
Ralphie B - Massive (Filterheads Remix)
Rank 1 - Awakening (Original Mix)
Rapid Eye - Circa-Forever (Original Iberia Mix)
Silverblue - Step Back (Blue Sky Remix)
Snap Vs. Plaything - Do You See The Light (Push Dub Remix Promo Vinyl)
Solid Sleep - Club Attack (Paul van Dyk Remix)
Transa - Enervate (Original Mix)
Transa - Supernova (Original Mix)
Yahel - Voyage (Original Mix)

This was during my warm up set from 9 till 11:30. Then I played my main set later... I like artists from cosmic gate, tiesto, armin van buuren, PvD, Push, ferry corsten. I like a lot, but though I don't want to go cheesy, but some ppl might find my stuff cheesy.

For those budding trance dj's out there, what are your main tunes and u would deffo want a slot playing at our night right? We have to arrange to meet up in Sheffield and do a mix. I have 1210's and cmx3000 cd decks too... and a pioneer djm3000 mixer. Its all hooked up to record and stuff.

Guys im more than welcome for more suggestions on to where to base the night, promotion ideas and djs etc.

You sound keen so as long as you show full dedication then i suppose 'the sky is your limit'

i too agree that there is faaar to much cheesey crap around so would therefore welcome any serious attempt to start up an new night in Sheffield!

If your looking for a venue then i suggest that you give 'The Arches' a try. It has beats/drum and bass/hypodelic trance and hardhouse pumping though its walls during 2-3 times a month. Headcharge is once a month as is planet zog with an additional night called Shock that occurs occasionaly as well. I've been told its got an underground feel to it which is ideal for the ravey scenario your looking for, also as the venue's only used once or twice a month that the owners would be more forthcoming to your proposals! The problem you'l find though is trying to convince club owners that you night will be different from other nights!

i mean republic already has trance through gatecrasher and S11DJ and even the arches has planet zogg which is also trance, so persuading a club to start up a new night could prove hard work. You'l need to also convince them that theres still a demand to fill your nights out, which would obviously involve the use of advertisements!

i suggest to remain 'underground' that you hand out flyers to lesser known haunts, on the net or throughword of mouth.

i reckon the republic will be too expensive for your budget..but i'd be interested to know how much they'd charge!!

here are some useful websites..

hope this helps?!

Given that Gatecrasher failed to make their weekly trance night turn a profit in the last year, holding it at the republic might not be a good idea

Thanks for the advice guys... but saying that with Republic... S1 1DJ, their trance part, is a bit bland... its still quite commercial ish. The other 2 rooms, funky house and hip hop is still much more packed. My idea is to provide a night during the weekdays for possibly students and cyberkids... my nights will consist of global trance like what my mates did with Sweet Ginger at newcastle, trance from around the world...

From my set in one of my posts above... is it cheesy? I want ppl's opinions as I like to know what is the level of cheesyness ppl can take and even those that go clubbing. Some ppl were saying how we could of got away DJing with ian van dhal and lasgo on our night. And some twat get asking me to play lasgo, was dying to give him a slap! lol
