Oakey answers BT
From the December Issue of Mixer Magazine:
Paul Oakenfold has answered to the claims made by his former labelmate BT . In the November issue of Mixer, BT (Brian Transeau) attacked Oakenfold's musical character, describing him as "fuckin' hand puppet" who "has not participated in a single piece of music that he's put his name on." Oakenfold responded: "He said that? Oh my god...That's terrible. I'm shocked."
In response to Transeau's claim that Steve Osbourne, Oakenfold's former production partner, was ghostwriting most of his tracks, Oakenfold said: "Factually, he's not right. I only worked with Osbourne on one track out of 22 tracks I recorded [for my 2002 album Bunkka]. I haven't worked with Osbourne for three years. So I dont even know where that came from."
What seemed to upset Oakenfold most was not the question of his artistic credibility, but the fact that Transeau, whose 1995 debut album Ima was released on Oakenfold's Perfecto label, would make such an unprovoked attack on his character. "All I can think is that he's jealous because he's always wanted to be a pop star, and maybe his records are not selling. I certainly don't want to get into a row through a magazine, and if I see him, I'll certainly ask him what his problem is. But he's got it wrong, and I certainly don't need to sit here and defend myself about something that he knows absolutely nothing about."
