GC Re-fit
Nicked from the gc boards..still interesting though!
"Sheffield's Republic nightclub, the home of Gatecrasher, is to be given a half million pound re-design in January of 2003 to bring it into line with new clubbing trends.
The venue is to be overhauled by Gatecrasher to enable greater musical diversity and a more bijou clubbing experience.
In place of the cavernous industrial warehouse experience, pioneered by clubs such as the Hacienda in the late Eighties, the venue is to be made more intimate with three distinct rooms and a host of new features.
A news release issued by the club this afternoon explains: "Just as the clubbing crowd wants more musical variety they expect more comfort, style and space."
Simon Raine and Simon Oates, founders of Gatecrasher, add: 'The Republic has been made famous by Gatecrasher over the last five years and we're delighted that our spiritual home is bringing state of the art clubbing back to the North Of England.
"Some of the design highlights will include an additional bar installed in the upper level of the new built area of the club, a new VIP room and a permanent real ice bar as well as the sale of oxygen at all of the bars. We're really excited"
In addition to the three dancefloors there will a series of more intimate chilling areas and an upstairs creating a lounge vibe.
The new Republic will be unveiled on 6 February 2003."
