Actually, I'm going to dispute that claim. Back that up. The crusades, the Inquisitions, Hitler's insistence that he was 'doing it for god', George Bush slaughtering innocent people in the middle east: 'God told me to invade Iraq'. Yes, atheists have done damage (Stalin comes to mind), but did they do that damage in the name of atheism? No.

Unfortunately, shitloads of people kill 'for god', or in the name of god, Allah etc. Compare the amount of atheists that have killed 'in the name of atheism' and then contrast that with the amount of theists that have killed in the name of theism. Starting to get the picture?

If you all know this discussion won't change each other's opinion on this delicated issue, I ask you:

Is there really any need for this thread to keep its existence on Earth?

If you're a Christian, shouldn't you be enjoying the life God gave you doing something better than arguing on the internet?

If you're an atheist, do you really think you can change someone's point of view on religion by posting in a thread where they already read in a deffensive stance?

Argh!

Using that logic, we may as well not make any topics in which there is a chance that there will be differing opinions expressed. I see no reason why we shouldn't discuss this, it's one of the most important questions one can ask, after all.

I do think that it's in the wrong forum though.

But this is neither the right forum nor the right thread. If it's a thread about religion, then fair enough. But in a religious thread, the chances of finding someone open to non-religious thoughts is smaller, I reckon.

But yes, I agree with you on the fact that this thread should either be moved or closed by now

Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself. - Timothy Leary

Sorry to break it to you, but Jesus didn't write the bible. And even if he did, that would hardly make him a 'good book writer'.

when you tools have the facts, comeback and talk to me.

jesus never wrote the bible...lol

the bible was written by around 60 different authors (66 books) over a period of about 1200 to approx 1800 yrs.

jesus did live btw, it was confirmed by a few atheist writers in the first century AD (don't believe me...look it up!)

his death or and resurrection will be argued till the end of time.

religion or beliefs is all about faith, depends how much faith you have in that belief.
