Doom 3 has some serious problems: you move too slowly. its too dark. theres not enough ammo. the shotgun takes too long to reload. there are too many monsters. the game doesnt ship with extra special brown rubber safety underpants.

AvP had the advantage of stealing the aliens & predators from famous & scary films to help create a scary atmosphere, whereas doom does this with real creativity and intense atmosphere. the game, even on the crappy setting above, looks gorgeous and it really helps draw you in. everything else before now looks cartoonish and amateurish.
simply put, the game is incredible and measures up to all the hype. maybe im a lil girl, but it scared the crap out of me from the moment i got my first weapon. couldnt play it all night coz i wouldve kept my flatmates up from all the screaming i was doing.

the only criticism i would make was that sometimes things feel a little too scripted (thus predictable) yet even when you know whats going to happen this doesnt help ya from jumping like a mo-fo when the beasties jump out at ya.

on the above settings the game is as smooth as a 17yo princess. no problems at all, and everything still looks great.

PC powerplay reckons its the best single player FPS ever, and thus far, i certainly would have to agree. cant wait til 5pm so i can go home and load her up again.

P4 2.8Ghz Presscott
1Gb DDR Ram
Gigabyte x800pro 256Mb
1280x1024 Ultra High Detail

The game runs fucking sweet at this res and detail. The AA is set to x2 atm, im gonna put it up to 4 and see how big the performance hit is.

I completely agree with the everyone, this game = brown trousers! Its very scary. Its like resident evil crossed with quake, simply put, its out of this world.

I think you are meant to go slowish in the game, I know I wouldnt want to be running everywhere. Its creep creep, shine torch into darkness and hope something doesnt jump out at you, creep into the shadows, then get mauled by some fucked up zombie! Its awesome! :P Didnt they say that ammo in doom3 was going to be harder to come by, to make the game more challenging?

Hats off to ID for their awesome work...

Now, what I really want is HL2!!!! Come on gabe you fat fuck, where is my dam game!

That CPU will run it fine.... but the game needs more than just a CPU to run.

i agree with the best single player fps ever comments. Just finished, id say it took me 12-14 hours to finish.

My only complaints are the weapon sounds, they sound pretty weak and spawning monsters behind you after you have walked past an area. Other than those 2 things the game is fantastic, certainly made me jump a lot of times. Delta labs 3 and 4 = freaky.

Runs nicely on my system (2.4, 9800pro, 1gb ddr333) at 1024x768 on medium quality and the game looks amazing.

Other than Half Life 2, the other game that i think will probably be a great contender is F.E.A.R.

Fark!! can't get over the screens and movies

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/f...dex.html?q=FEAR

hey escee, have you got the Radeon 9800 pro? how is the 9600XT in comparison? obviously it's lower but how big of a difference in graphical performance if you know.

the 9600XT is great cause it comes with a free copy of Half Life 2 , well when it gets released

BTW, anyone with AMD Athlon 64, i heard that the CPU gets hot fast, is this true? is the Athlon good for any other stuff other than games?

ive read a bit on athlons last few weeks.

the 64s outperform prescotts for gaming and for a fair bit of other stuff.

i was initially very biased towards p4, but the A64s are better.

no seriously escee. my first action upon our inaugral meeting will be to hoist your underpants ABOVE your head and then tuck them back in your pants BEHIND you.

dont worry, my 2nd action will then be, to kiss.
