We are the fattest nation. Yet I see two sides to this issue.

On the one hand there are the DRASTIC economic consequences of such mass obesity. We're already haggled w/ social security and medicare...sadly people don’t seem to realize just how devastating obesity will be. All of the children who are stuffing their mouths w/ burgers and getting fat will develop diseases early on in life (i.e. diabetes, hypertension, etc). The number of obese and over-weight kids/teens is staggering and the economic and social costs of their affliction will certainly hamper things down the line.

Yet on the other hand there is the issue of choice. Someone touched on this earlier...no one is forcing people to eat this food. McDonalds hasn’t implanted mind-controlling chips in the people lol
One would think in an informed and enlightened society people, parents specifically, would understand the basic concept of calories and health...how too many calories pack on the fat hehe.

Of course we are assuming this is an informed and sophisticated society...

The real reason people are fat is because people are lazy. They will drive five times around a parking lot to get the best possible spot just to save themselves a few steps, then wonder why they have trouble controlling their weight.
