Anyway, you can't really compare McProg/dutch crap to other music. Music is never 100% original, far from, but like I said, McProg is an extreme case.

So strong fan base= pop? Hmmm. I'm not saying it's underground, but it doesn't have to be to be good. And you still haven't given a good reason why it's so unoriginal. It uses catchy melodies, so it's unoriginal? Is that as good as you can do?

And to whatever tit used a Star Trek analogy, well done, we look like right fucking geeks now...

I think when most people go out and listen to music at a club, they go with friends to have a good time. A lot of people don't even know one song from the next and could care less what the tracklisting is, but so what? That should be the whole point of any form of music, as it is entertainment. Some people like highly intellectual movies, while others like Ben Stiller movies, but the point is,like music, it's a subjective thing. If you really have that much of a problem with McProg that you devote all your time to bashing it, rather discussing music that you actually like, and if you are so insistant that what you personally like is so much better than anything else anyone listens to, the following genres also probably have boards you should spend some time whining on (most are formulaic too and many sell more albums):

It's a new sound, yes. And already after, what, a year, it's completely run out of ideas. Who was it that started it again? James Holden? His early tracks would've been enough, this is just pushing it.

My point is, how many genres don't run out of ideas after a year or so? If a genre does start to change, these days it just gets relabelled and turned into another sub-genre. Name me some styles of EDM currently popular that are still kicking new ideas out.

I'm not talking about other genres, I'm talking about how extremely uninventive McProg is. Or, the DJs that spin it, rather. They oughtta mix it up alittle, and people wouldn't have such big a problem with all the crap that gets released. They're squeezing every last penny out of the genre, and that's what's killing it.

Let out your inner geek, you know you have it

(or else you wouldn't have so many posts)

it feels good, wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee

seriosly though, there is soooooooooo much good music out there, more than what all of the TA's put together could possibly mention, more than one person could hear. We only have so much time to hear whats out there, so lets all go see what we can find then come back here and share it with each other.

There is a certain beauty in a sound that doesnt change, while it might bore one person, it is entrancing another. There is nothing wrong with finding a sound and playing the hell out of it because it works on a crowd full of people. If someone prefers variety, the best thing to do is listen to a variety of different musicians instead of expecting just one person to give it to you.\

kapla!
