it is great to see all of the comments here, flowing both ways, everyone has an opinion and a strong one. it's great to see an audience passionate about our scene, maybe that will be the catalyst to help it grow. we need something like this to break into the larger scene out there, or we'll all be bombarded by hip hop for the rest of our lives. i'll add my personal review as i was as much a customer as anyone else Saturday night.
there were just over 10,000 people attending (statistics will be published in Billboard for you doubters). it was a record event, hands down for a single dj or act in north america. for those of you that are the Sasha and Digweed followers - i'll give you a comparable of what they have done in a similar setting. once in a blue moon in San Francisco at the Cow Palace and the same show at the AllState in Chicago drew 9,000 people each at 60% of the ticket price - but Sasha and Digweed co-headlined with Paul Oakenfold and The Chemical Brothers LIVE. The biggest single event for the Sasha and Digweed tour drew 4600 people, from what i recall, as we produced that particular show. If they were given a large scale production at the level of tiesto in concert it would be interesting to see what they could do, but pulling a bigger crowd in North America would be a challenge.
the vibe in the room was the best i've seen in ten years of this business. it had the feeling of a very, very big nightclub, not an arena. the crowd was excellent, people actually cheered when we opened the doors, i've not seen that before. the tempo of the night must have worked for most, as the response at every major break was electric - i watched a lot of the show from the seats across the room from the stage so i could see it all. it was interesting how at first people came into the room and jammed to the front, like a big concert, but after an hour or so spread out to turn the space into an oversized dancefloor.
all of the performers were sharp, the drummers were excellent and will return with additional samba drummers to NYE in Vegas, as well as a few new concepts we will have just for the Las Vegas gig. the aerial performers and hand balancing were incredible. each of the singers did an excellent job, from very different approaches. lasers could have had a few added in for the scale of the room, but in places like Miami and Vegas that have somewhat smaller capacities they will be far more impressive - the whole show will be for that matter. the production crew was flawless from start to finish in terms of the gear used and execution, the sound really was spot on.
our promotion partners, insomniac notably, club crasher, evolution and after hour power were brilliant. they all worked hard to turn people out for this gig. our friends at element radio probably worked the hardest on this one and it showed.
most importantly, i would like to say thank you to everyone who attended this event. without sounding too much like a promoter, everyone at this tiesto in concert really was a part of history in the making. it was an incredible night. thanks to Tiesto and his team who put on a phenomenal show - they have vision and Tiesto has the charisma and confidence to pull something on this scale off, i can't think of any other electronic artist who would take on a project like this and know it can work. cheers.
now to the east coast.

I have nothing for or against any of these DJs, but Sasha and Diggers would shit all over Tiesto IF they played together, and whats more they would draw a more musically enlightened audience since Tiesto tends to pull a lot of members of the opposite gender because of his posterboyish looks - a phenomenon that neither Sasha or John will experience anytime soon. Seriously - a Sasha and Digweed show would sell out a stadium here in SoCal and would attract people from SF, Vegas, SD, as well as the greater LA area - which I think would sell out a place like the Coloseum. |

I think Sasha & Digweed are amazing I have seen them both together and both when they are solo. Its always a great time. That Buenos Aries video is amazing. Unfortunatly the turnout for them would not be anywhere near as big here in the states. EDM is massive in South America. The words massive and EDM don't even belong in the same sentance when it comes to events here in the states. If any of west coast TAs can rember back to WMC this past year (March 2005). I don't know if any of you all went or not but, Sasha & Digweed headlined the Official Ultra after party at the American Airlines Arena, (same place the Miami Heat NBA team plays). This was right after Ultra too, the Arena was literally across the street from the Ultra Venue. You are talking about anwywere from 30 thousand to 50 thousand EDM heads in Miami, and not even 10 thousand of them showed up to watch Sasha & Diggers first set toghther in 3 years in a damn arena. There was probably more people in the Amphitheater at Ultra getting down to Tiesto's set, then there were at the after party. Oh BTW, did I mention that the opening act was Hernan Cattaneo and James Zabiela tag teaming!!! And from the looks of things, they had the same sound setup for that party, as you all did for TIC. Now you wanna talk about a night of great music. And the party went from midnight until ???? I left at 4:30am cause I was beat from dancing all day in the sun at Ultra, and 5 days of solid parting before that. How much did the event cost you ask? A measly $20 with your Ultra ticket stub. With all that being said, I'll be in Miami when TIC comes to the east coast cause I'm 100% it will be another night of great music.
